i love when this happens

when a dude pulls up along side you at a light.. rolls down the window and says "thats an rx8 with that rotary engine right?".. you tell him he is right and he responds "cause you were flying back there and i could barely hear your car, thats pretty sick"

snizzle 04-11-2006 12:23 PM

I have more people pull up and say to me "what the hell kinda car is that?"

callmemickey 04-11-2006 12:24 PM

i get that as well.. which is why i was impressed this guy had some sense to him..

RazzyBRX-8 04-11-2006 12:26 PM

haha I like it when people stare. That's when you pull off and punch it. I get a kick out of the people still continuing to stare. :ylsuper:

captain mercury 04-11-2006 12:29 PM

i read all these posts about people getting crazy looks, crazy comments, etc.
i have not experienced this joy yet. :sadwavey:

snizzle 04-11-2006 12:31 PM

You live in the OC, CA. That explains it.

RazzyBRX-8 04-11-2006 12:33 PM

I was getting icecream with my girlfriend and of coarse we took my car. The lady's daughter (that was behind us) accidentally openned the door on the car next to hers. The lady looks over at me (i was watching) and goes "thats not your car right? Yours is the pretty blue one!" Stares are the BEST though. Because ithey look like they're in a trance.

Bankotsu 04-11-2006 12:48 PM

I get a lot of stares still. When I first got the car, my friend counted how many stares I would get. I don't get as many as I did last year though.

I had a similar comment from a neighbor who heard me downshift, he said jokingly "do you have a turbine in that thing?" The note matches the car, differently yet the same way that a V8 Mustang's engine note matches its look.

Part of the reason I bought the 8 was that I loved the induction sounds, the sound of smooth balanced precision at redline, the "jet engine powering up" sound during acceleration. I rank it up there with my favorites, the flat 12 engine in my friends 512TR, or any air cooled 911 flat 6.

I just love engine sounds, not exhaust sounds like a Harley or riced out cars, but ENGINE sounds. My 13000RPM sportbike sounds like its ripping canvas, my other bike, a boxer twin, sounds like a gorilla thumping its chest.

Character...so much of it lacking in today's cars.

OOOWW OOWW ME NEXT!! MY TURN!!

One time, when i was going to the store while i was parking i was driving in this lady was walking with her two little kids one of them said "oh that's a nice" car and she said, "yes THAT is a nice car"

That made my penis smile.

especially as the rx-8 climbs up the ramps.. a pleasant sound that makes you want to pull out and go for a ride, not park and walk into work hehe

Some kid riding with his mom in a montero sport kept taking pictures with his camera phone. He was starting to freak me out after the 5th picture.

In his defense, the MS kit makes my car look pretty damn sexy.

BunnyGirl 04-11-2006 01:30 PM

I used to hardly ever see RX-8s anywhere but now working at the hospital I see several of them in physician parking and other reserved parking spots for high-level staff positions.

Dro 04-11-2006 01:32 PM

Thats funny I was at the hospital yesterday and seriously contemplated parking in one of those.

I get a lot of comments from people at gas stations.
It's times like that I don't mind our mpg because I'm excited about going to fill up and most likely have someone walk up to my car and comment how nice it is. :)

SlayerRX8 04-11-2006 01:50 PM

Yeah, it's great. I've been getting it since the first day I took the car out. I went to the gas station, and as I'm about to go inside to pay first, the attendant is running out toward me. "IS THAT YOUR CAR?" "Yeah, it is." "I JUST HAD TO TAKE A LOOK AT IT BECAUSE THE RX8 IS SUCH A BEAUTY." I thanked him, and gave him 20 bucks for the gas and he insists on pumping it. As he's doing that, I look around and realize everyone is staring at me and the car haha

Red_X8 04-11-2006 01:58 PM

The best one I ever had is going down to a club meet in Chicago on a Friday night and the sidewalks packed with people and some guy walked right into a sign staring at my car. That and the HKS exhaust rumbles the buildings as you drive by and in the tunnels it sounds like a race car. Thats what makes the 8 so addicting, sure there are faster, but how many rx-8's do you see and how many z's do you see? It makes this car kind of exotic in a sense.

jisoo26 04-11-2006 02:08 PM

I constantly get comments all the time about my 8. A couple Sundays ago I was working at our family store to give my parents the day off. One of the customers walks in and starts a short conversation with me:

Customer: Is that your car??
Me: Yeah :)
Customer: Damn....

I had another conversation with the next customer that walked it, hilarious stuff:

Customer#2: Hey is that one o'them new Mazdas?
Me: Yeah, it's an RX-8. You know, the successor to the old RX-7.
Customer#2: I remember them! Damn she's pretty.
Me: Thanks, I'm pretty happy with it.
Customer#2: So then how many horses you get with the V6?
Me: (Trying to be polite) Um, it's a rotary engine?
Customer#2: (Blank stare)

LOL I love this car.

Cool-Blue-Dad 04-11-2006 02:14 PM

Yeah, gas stations are a good place to attract compliments and really dumb questions, but my favorite are the admiring looks.

The station I typically visit is on a busy (traffic) corner and the pump at the very corner is usually available. I like to scan around the cars stopped at the stop-light and see how many of their occupants are staring fixedly at my car. She attracts a lot of stares on bright sunny mornings when she just gleams and sparkles in the sun. (Blue is the best color!!!!)

bbtheory 04-11-2006 02:31 PM

On my second day with the 8 (I am still only on my second week!) I was at the local 7-11 and a dad who was treating his kids to slurpees after karate practice (either that or he lets his kids wear their karate outfits all the time) came up to me and said

"sweet car man excuse me for asking but what'd that cost you, like $40,000.00?"

I smile and said "It was barely even half of that, around 22k..."

The look in his eyes said "22k? Time to talk to the wife and teach the kids to fight at home!"

If you do that at my hospital and you are not registered with the proper parking permit you'll get a parking ticket, a boot put on, or towed, depending on what they feel like doing to you at the time.

Elara 04-11-2006 03:25 PM

My favorite is pulling into the mall or somewhere else, and then the double take as the person who was admiring my car suddenly realizes I'm taking a baby out of the back seat- I get a lot of jealous looks from the minivan set at my daughter's school, too. Not MY fault they got minivan...

ritchjp 04-11-2006 03:28 PM

Yeah, I was parked next to the front door of a gas station, had to use the restroom. As I was coming out this guy was coming in. He continued to stare and tell his friends he was getting him one of those and the guy walked right into the door. Still was staring as he got inside. Made me feel pretty good.

One of many reasons I did not follow through ;)
