I have a question

ok, ive been searching the web and lookng for info on the rx8 and i no quite a bit, but im left wit the decision of rx8 or a mustang mach1...see i havent test driven them and i wont be able to eitherso i just wanted to ask for your opinions, keep in mind the mustang has 305 horsepower and 300 sumtin torque, although i like the rx8's design much better... guys can u help me out? liek i was wondering if maybe even at 239 hp the rx8 still packs a punch cuz of the light weight... iunno

mysql101 05-17-2004 09:28 PM

This is far too personal a choice, no one here can tell you which one to buy.

If you're able to buy one or the other, why can't you go test them both out?

iM2GoOd2bTrU 05-17-2004 09:29 PM

okay.. well.. first of all, you shouldn't really ask this question on a RX-8 forum...

that's like asking a cow if you should kill it or not... (well... that was a really bad metaphor)

anyways... think about it this way, which one will attract the ladies? girls love the suicide doors...

shade 05-17-2004 09:43 PM

ya uve got a point but one thing i wanted answered was that how much punch does the rx8 pack like in my opinion 239 hp is nuttin compared to 305 rite? but obviously hp alone will not determine which goes quicker, accelerates faster etc... i jus wanted some approval maybe that at 239 hp it does just as good or somethign to relate u know?

Mikelikes2drive 05-17-2004 10:16 PM

do you want to go straight very fast? or take the turns very fast? your decision. my opinion choose the 8 (duh) because its more rare. everyone will have a mustang

zoom44 05-17-2004 10:34 PM

why cant you test drive them? with a decision between these 2 cars you have to test drive them to understand the feeling of driving each car. completly different driving feels.

shade 05-17-2004 11:12 PM

you have a point mike... do u guys think that the 8 will get better performance in the future? like considerable? and which do u think gives u more for the money?

restob 05-17-2004 11:59 PM

You really need to test drive both. You also have to consider lots of things that you and only you know about. Like finances, likes, dis-likes and what do you want out of the car. Looks? Power? etc, etc. I can tell you, that out of the cars I have owned since 1986, to include a 1997 Ford Probe GT, 1990 300ZX 2+2 and a 1994 300ZX turbo, my RX-8 is the one I have enjoyed the most. Hands down. Good luck in your quest.

Check out some of the comparison tests conducted by the magazines - the first test Car and Driver did of an RX-8 was to compare it to a Cobra (the supercharged 390 hp SVT Mustang, not just a Mach 1) and an Infiniti G35C). They put the RX-8 in first place ahead of the two more powerful competitors - search on Car and Driver's web site to find that test. In most comparisons so far (against 350Z, Honda S2000 in Motor Trend most recently), the RX-8 is winning the comparisons.

Gordon

just out of curousity, are you a young person who is just interested in cars? haha, nevermind, i can tell by the way you type your under 18 years old. in that case, think twice about your life than your speed. my friend was in a hit-and-run accident and got his license suspended and fined thousands of dollars.

do you have the money to?

if you like speed, go with the mach 1, except it's around 3k more expensive though

if you want the best sounding engine you'll ever hear in your life,
stick with the rx8

The reason he hasn't driven one is because he/she is 14 years old. He claims to be 15 on another thread, but lists 11/1/89 as their birthday. Maybe I'm figuring it wrong...

I actually remember that article... my brother had the magazine and I read the whole thing. It was like, first, the RX8, then the mustang and last the G35.

The one I saw had the stang last. G35 second, and RX-8 first.

Hey, I have a convertible Mustang, and I take offense to that remark. My mustang is worth quite a bit. Almost half of what my RX-8's navigation system cost.

I'm sorry....I don't speak ebonics well enough to carry on a conversation with you.

If you want straight line performance I'd go with the Mach 1. RX8 is a much better value and all around car. I personally wouldn't get any Mustang right now anyway-especially with the redesigned 05s around the corner--don't waist your time on a Mach 1 simply on the fact that it is a more expensive car to own and the resale value will plummet even more so when the 05s come out. The interior quality is subpar as well. But; if going fast in a straight line is the objective and you love the current iteration of the Mustang Mach 1 then go for it--me personally would hold out for the 05s or get a used Cobra if I wanted a Mustang. Go test drive both--they are on two completely different sides of the fence. That is about the most unbiased opinion I can give you--happy shopping.

I've driven a bunch of Crustangs and I honestly hate those cars. The materials are junk, the seats are soft and flimsy, the gear box is a joke, the steering feels like it's connected with rubber bands, the brakes feel like video game controls, the ergonomics were thrown out the window and the base of the car dates back to 1979.

Sure they are fast but that's about it. Pure junk IME.
