I just found out that my car is within this recall.

I'm a bit worried about this, but I have several mods on my car which dealers never like.

Should I perform this recall? or would it be okay?

It's quite messy if I have to remove them and put the stock parts back on.

What do you think?

Your kidding, right? Of course go in and get the recall, and leave your mods on the car. They will flash your PCM to "R", so you might at least pull the CZ unit out, though you don't have to. The "R" flash will mess with your tuned CZ map, so you will need to tweak it.

Yeah..I know I must go.

I can remove my CZ within 10 min, so no problem, but I'm concerned about my supercat.

It's illegal to replace the stock cat in CA.

Is it possible that dealers refuse to perform the service because I have the illegal mods on my car?

I don't see how it's relevant what pets you own and drive around in your car?? :confused:

Dear Mazda Owner:

This notice is sent to you in accordance with the requirements of the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act.

Mazda Motor Corporation has decided that a defect, which relates to motor vehicle safety, exists in certain 2004-2005 RX-8 vehicles produced from April 10, 2003 through July 7, 2005.

If you are a recipient of this notice, your vehicle is included in this campaign.

What is the problem?
On certain 2004-2005 RX-8 vehicles, if a RX-8 is parked and the engine is operated at high RPMs, excessive heat build-up may affect oxygen sensors, the neutral switch and back up lights causing MIL illumination, and exhaust emission and drivability will be adversely affected.

It may also lead to problems with the parking brake cable tube causing loss of parking brake function, malfunctions of the gas gauge and possible damage to the fuel tank causing fuel leaks. Fuel leakage in sufficient quantity in the presence of an ignition source could potentially result in a vehicle fire.

What will Mazda do?
Your Mazda dealer will inspect the fuel tank and other parts around the exhaust system, install a heat insulator pad to the fuel tank, as needed, reprogram the PCM (Power Control Module) and replace, as necessary, any parts having heat damage, free of charge. The repair should take approximately one hour to complete. However, it may take longer depending on the service workload at your Mazda dealership. As a reminder, the Mazda Driver’s Assurance Plan may provide alternate transportation when your vehicle is at an authorized Mazda dealership for a warranty repair. To be eligible for alternate transportation, your vehicle must be a 2001 or newer and within the mileage and time limitations under the Mazda New Vehicle Limited Warranty and adhere to the Rental Car Reimbursement policy. Ask your dealer for details about the Mazda Rental Car Reimbursement Program.

What should you do?
Mazda is concerned about your safety, and we encourage you to make an appointment with any authorized Mazda dealer to have the fuel tank and other related parts inspected and repaired, if necessary, as soon as possible. You do not need to bring this notice to the dealer, but it may assist in the check-in process.

Yeah, I was gonna say, I had this done in July. I dont understand how people can still be recieving these notices. When did you purchase your 8?

I did that recal a few months Back. Don't worry about the cat. They won't do anything. But if you have a turbo then you better worry. I had a turbo on mine and they wouldn't even change my tailight under the warranty. They said the only type of work they will continue to do is recalls. Trust me they have to do it otherwise they could face a law suite. Cat back exhaust, no prob, but I would put the CZ away!

I don't think they can deny you a recall item regardless of what you have in your car.. However, they could note it and still void your future warranty claims.

That void warranty your talking about is that BS? I was told by my Mazda service Manager that you can voide the the warranty if you swap out after-market parts on your engine but will not totaly void your vehicle warrenty IE: your brakes, is this BS?

THey are supposed to prove that the part caused the problem, but it doesn't mean they cant void on anything they claim.

Build date: April, 2004

I bought my '05 on November 25 and I took it in for a 1,000 mile check up and they informed of this recall. Why didn't they do this before they delivered it to me?

What is the build date on your car? If it was actually built in '05 it already had the "repairs" done at the factory as part of the assembly process. You don't need any of the "recalls" if your build date is in '05. And even if you did, the dealer would have done them before delivering the car, unless they are totally incompetent. Come to think of it though, it appears that one could draw that conclusion anyway since they are feeding you this BS.

June 05' for me, and they still said it needed to be replaced.

The dealer will always recommend going back to stock, I'm in Texas and they always recommend me removing my mods as well... But unless your their for a safety inspection they can not refuse to fix your car by law if it's under recall. While removing the stock catalitic converter is illegal a mechanic or shop normally will not concern themselves with it unless their the ones pulling the catalitic converter off, by law they have to keep it and documentation that they replaced it with a new one... If they give you any crap just tell them you bought the car like that and no one's mentioned it before. Also call the dealer with your vin number they'll tell you if you need to come in, they'll have a valid list of cars that require work not just a letter Mazda by law has to send out to cover themselves.
