Turn your heater off

inspect your cat converter.

dungeoned 09-25-2012 12:20 AM

rx8 soldier .. where is the cat converter located?

Slidin8 09-25-2012 12:27 AM

Please help yourself and search

RX8Soldier 09-25-2012 12:28 AM

The catalytic converter is located on your exhaust system, between the engine and the tailpipes.

EDIT: Now please, do yourself a favor and read the first thread I linked to you and do as much research as you can. By the sounds of it, you don't know much about cars in general...

Emery_ 09-25-2012 12:28 AM

Under your car... You should read that link he sent, the cat gets hot even when fully functional. So assuming your cat was maybe clogged then I'm sure it would get even hotter. Either way, can't really diagnose your car without actually seeing it.

StealthTL 09-25-2012 12:35 AM

Does the car show any Check Engine light on your dash?

dungeoned 09-25-2012 12:36 AM

@Rx8 Soldier : yes i am reading the link u sent.. it says that "Removing the naturally restrictive catalytic converter" increases power??.. do u think the previous owner removed it to gain power.. its my 1st sports car,, i own a 1.8 2012 civic and also a 2002 1.6 civic.
im too much worried and nervous . is this a serious problem?

dungeoned 09-25-2012 12:44 AM

@ Stealth : no it is not showing any check engine . the heat is also felt in the Fenders ( Front right and left sides of the Car`s Body) that i cant put my hand on it

StealthTL 09-25-2012 12:58 AM

No lights = no problem!

The '8 puts out a lot of heat compared to other cars, don't worry about it.

Did you buy it from Japan with 19k on it? or was it originally sold new in Pakistan?

dungeoned 09-25-2012 01:13 AM

@ STealthTL : i got it imported from UK.. it is a UK version . The taxes and Duty here are massive.. it costed me 20,000 dollars exactly with shipment and regitration. i got it yesterday and i drove it 20 kms but then the HEat worried me.. it was all over the floor and the consoles
were also too much heated even the carpet was so hot. i was so nervous that i couldnt sleep all night. the Heat Temp Dial/Guage is normal, no check engine, after an hour or so i took the car for a drive for 15 minutes to check how fast it goes , when i pulled the car car on 1st gear with full throttle it let out a small aount of black smoke from the exhaust s behind.

dungeoned 09-25-2012 02:15 AM

Stealth u there? any body??

Slidin8 09-25-2012 02:17 AM

its night time in the US so your very unlikely to get a response.

dungeoned 09-25-2012 02:20 AM

oh ok// acually there is not Mazda service centre here in Pakistan :@

dungeoned 09-25-2012 02:37 AM

does all Rx8`s heats likes this from inside, or is it just mine

kjb 09-25-2012 03:17 AM

I haven't noticed excessive heat in mine. It gets warm around the shifter, but nothing notable. If you're running it at high revs for extended periods, then it's going to get hot, but if you're cruising at mid-range RPMs it shouldn't get too hot. A lot depends on how you're driving it.

Beodude 09-25-2012 04:05 AM

Your cat is probably clogged.

Slidin8 09-25-2012 04:08 AM

remove your cat pipe and bash that shit out with a steel rod

you said there's no Mazda service center in Pakistan?

is there any rotary specific workshops?

bse50 09-25-2012 04:35 AM

Nope, there aren't.

Visually inspect your catalytic converter by having a shop remove it and look inside. The honeycomb should be straight and not broken.
Also check your ignition components while you're at it. Damaged catalytic converters and faulty ignition systems (coils, wires, spark plugs) really kill our engines.

Since you live in Pakistan make sure to run a thicker oil, premix and raise your oil system's pressure (check Mazmart's oil pressure regulator).
Your UK service manual will tell you to service the car every 12000 miles and the spark plugs every 60000 i think. Well, divide that by 2 to be happy.

Other than that, enjoy your car!

i am so much thankful to u brothers for giving me time and so much guidance.. ill get the catalytic converter checked.. can i use 30- 40 engine oil as the temp here is always hot like always above 30 degrees centigrade.

dungeoned 09-25-2012 05:45 AM

@ Slidin8 : yes there is 1 just came back from him... he said that this heating thing is normal and all rx8 gets heated from engine bay till handbrake and console box inside the car, and he didnot talk about the catalytic converter, so i knew now that he knows only a little bit about rx8 and hes a normal mechanic.

bse50 09-25-2012 06:27 AM

10w40 will be fine.
