How's the turbo on RX-8?
 

just want to ask if i put turbo on RX-8, how's that?

Some of us have had issues with the current setups. The Mazsport kit is much better, but much more $$$. If anybody suggests to you the Greddy kit, just be aware several of us have blown our engines using this unit. Definitely not a "prime time" unit. I feel that Greddy really cut corners here.

shinka_j, The turbo will be fine for handling. It's linear just like the engine. You push the throttle harder, it will boost more. Give it a gradual throttle and you'll get no boost...

and i have already ordered the Greddy kit, it includes everything. i don't know it 's good or bad?

Now why on earth would you order something without knowing anything about it?! :uhh:

the greddy kit is fine.

but you will want to consider getting the EMU (If yours comes with the emanage blue), or the interceptor-x for fuel managment.

Also be sure to buy all new hoses, the ones greddy ships with are prone to bursting.

Once you have the fuel management and hoses taken care of, it's a solid kit. There is no way the kit can blow your engine. It's just a turbo and some pipes. If the fuel management isn't properly tuned, you might have issues, but that's completely different.

and do you guys know how much the labor for put the tubor?

:iamwithst Yeah, I agree..It seems there are many on this forum (Like Miatgu) who are just nasty people who have nothing nice to say. Im also on the Vette and infiniti forum but the RX8 forum has the most negative attitudes.. I bet it is an age thing... Kids and dogs... :wavey:

I second the new hoses/clamps, I had one break after an accident at 5 mph... no damage to the outside of the car, but i was leaking air.

Hey I've got plenty of nice things to say to people who say nice things themselves and add to the conversation and general knowledge of the board. And yeah there's people who are dicks to newbies even if they don't deserve it or if there was a similar answer posted 3 years ago in an ancient thread. Stuff is always changing so it's not fair to jump on someone for asking about aftermarket products that may have changed significantly in the past 6 or 12 months. I try not to do that.

But you've got to admit it's difficult to reply seriously to someone who asks something as vague and general as "How's the turbo?" in the "General" Forum instead of the "Performance Mod" forum, plus he's asking whether it's good or bad and how much it will cost to install after he'd already bought and paid for the parts! It would be a lot easier to advise him on doing a self-install vs. a shop-install if we could understand what he was actually asking, wouldn't it?

And this: "but if i put the turbo, too hard to hardle it" and "how much the labor for put the tubor?" I won't nitpick any more, but I would like to request pictures of the results if he does the install himself.

Oh, and as for the general attitude here, I've browsed through a number of other car forums, and I'd much rather have the type of community I see here than what I find on some of the RSX/Civic boards (just as an example) where you get buried in ridiculous Kill threads.

While I agree that there are too many nasty folk here, I'm not sure it's really "many". I think it might just be a vocal minority; there really are a lot of pleasant, helpful people here as well.

I've got to agree with Endor here. Who buys a turbo kit with doing zero research on it. I mean that is some serious chunck of change.

Also be aware that this is far from a bolt on turbo kit. Some novices think that all the parts come with it, the kit must be good to go. But unless you you are willing to spend (a lot) of time with this kit, tuning/fixing this definitely may not be the kit for you. Just an FYI to the original poster.

I bought the Greddy a while back. and Pretty much dropped another $1,000 on top of the price just in "other parts" and little things here and there that I needed while Installing it.

I did the install myself (with some mechanic friends) and took 2 Full days (dusk till Dawn) I have the e-manage Ultimate, but still highly recomend a proper tune. just to play it safe.

The only problem with my Greddy turbo was.......

it was running perfectly fine once i installed it, fast, and sounded hot. But the sound was the wastegate and reversing the turbo (which is bad).

The Greddy kit doesent come with a BOV (save a couple more bucks for that)

I went with the Greddy BOV (to make it all a full kit)
and go figure. It was a pain in the ass (I wonder why they dont sell it with it)

A bunch of Idle problems and my car was turning off every time i stopped.
My check engine light was on all the time, so on.

I went with the HKS BOV. and it was a HUGE diffrence. Its awsome in every way, and my car idles perfect.

My check engine light is on all the time still, but its only because i havent tuned it yet with the HKS BOV.

The best way to make a proper release on a rx8 is a recirculating Blow off.

Right now, the only Issue that i have is that when i floor it hard. I get this grind sound.
yeah yeah yeah, i know, ive had this issue for a couple of weeks now. I havent had time to go take it up to the shop since all of this x-mas shopping was in the way.

I have no idea what it is.

but yeah, the Greddy is a good kit if your not planning on Racing with it constantly.

I dont think it was made for a turbo abuse for like drag races or anything.

overall, still a good kit.

Romeo, I met you over at Sevenstock. Shortly after that my engine went kaboom man. Going from the 134 to the 5.

Be careful that grinding sound at high RPM's isn't detonation or you could be joining me in the Dead Renesis club. You have heard what detonation sounds like right ?

Might get some colder leading plugs to improve the reliability.

fanman- what was the conclusion on why your motor blew? it seems like everyone with blown greddy kits blames it on their e manage but you had the int x right?
