How too.. paddle burnout

My friend got a ferreri f430 with the paddle shift. how do you do burnouts with it?

muya 06-02-2006 12:02 AM

step on the brake?

daisuke 06-02-2006 12:05 AM

you have to put the transmission into launch mode (if it has one), but I don't know if it'll let you do them, I think so...

ferraris have the only passably decent clutchless sequential trannies, but as a general rule of thumb they suck ass, nothing worse than a stupid computer telling you what you can and can't do (and most of the time you can't do what you want to do) I've almost been hit twice in that kind of car because the computer decided I couldn't peel out, once a semi had to slam on the brakes to avoid hitting me, the car just wouldn't accelerate.

I find it rather humerous that yur bud can afford $200K car, and doesn't have any knowledge about basic muscle car driving. Maybe it's just me, but burnouts couldn't be much easier...

as muya said, stand on the brake and gas it. I've read about some Ferrari's that have a mode override or "free" mode that doesn't use any type of assists and basically lets the car respond to whatever yur telling it too.

Another idea...owners manual.

US spec F430's don't have a Launch Control button, so he is going to have put it in race mode and just nail the gas in 1st gear. That is probably the closest he can get to a burnout. Instead of using race mode, he could use the mode that turns all of the safety stuff off, but not sure what result that will get you.

If your friend does this enough times he is going to end up having to replace that very expensive clutch. They wear much faster than the standard 6sp clutches from what I read.

on the steering wheel, there is a switch that can be turned to varying levels of control. Race, mentioned above, turns off tsc, dsc, etc... If its in race mode and you floor it, you will get plenty of tire spin. I wouldnt recommend tapping the break at all when doing this.

daisuke 06-02-2006 11:21 AM

I wouldn't recommend doing burnouts at all actually, not with a paddle shifter.

Actually... if you want to do burnouts just use a mustang GT or something like that, you don't want to pay the bill if the ferrari breaks down... and I'm sure ferrari designers didn't have burnouts in mind when they designed that tranny

Burnouts in a Ferrari? Why?

NgoRX8 06-02-2006 01:10 PM

what's even more weird is this is in the RX-8 Discussion. :hahano:

8is>enuff 06-02-2006 02:49 PM

Step 1: Get it going as fast as possible in reverse.
Step 2: See if you can jam it into drive.
Step 3: Gas it.
Step 4: Report back to us.

Backwards roll on a wet road with loose gravel spilled on it.

Step 1 involves stealing the keys of him while he is asleep.....

Step 2 involves experimentation in a dark supermarket carpark or the backroads in an industrial estate.....

At least you'll have accurate results to report to him by morning :cwm27:

He bought a Ferrari and has you post on a RX-8 board about how he can do burnouts in it?

Tell him to drive it off a cliff, or at least take the keys from him. He doesn't need that kind of car.

I disagree. Before I bought my RX-8 I had done 3 months of research and posted every day on this fourm. Even so, I didn't know everything there was to know about it, and I still don't.

What's the harm in asking?

maxxdamigz 06-03-2006 09:26 AM

I think Goat was eluding to the fact that few people who own an RX-8 have a lot of Ferrari burnout experience and that another, more deep pocketed forum, might have been a better resource.

mysql101 06-03-2006 09:33 AM

I have a lot of ferrari burnout time behind my belt. Just hold down "A" and the car goes vrooom.

Please do a video of it coming apart for us too.

I think it's funny that this guy buys a Ferrari and wants to be juvanile and do a burnout.
