i live in Victoria, BC actully i want to get the nav system on my new rx8. is it a really good idea? how is it? thanx

It's fun and helpful. Do you drive to unfamiliar places much?
If it doesn't break the bank- definitely get it !!!!! |
yeah i go to "unfamiliar places" a lot, but i am worried about if I still cannot find the WAY HOME after i discover new roads LOL
|
GET IT !

NAV isbetter than no NAV butI just wantedto say that Ive seen NAVs on othercars that are much more functional than the Rx8s NAV --for example running completely in 3D. Theres a 3D option in the Rx8 NAV but its more of a gimmick than something thats actually functional. While the Rx8 NAV is a one time $2000 a friend toldme he pays about $50 a month for the NAV in his g35 which comesout to about $1200 every 2 years. I guess inthe long run youre saving a little more than other NAV owners who pay monthly
|
so thats mean i dont need to pay monthly for the nav on rx8 right?!
|
no monthly fee

It is great having the Nav system. Ecspecially if you drive to places you haven't been. I wouldn't trade mine for anything. Its helped me out alot.

I like my NAV system but I would add that in dense urban areas the directions can be a little quirky, sometimes sending you into congestion when using side streets would be quicker.
Tweaking the adjustments doesn't seem to help much. After a while you can learn some tricks (such as turning the system on after you've passed the streets the system likes to use) -- but if you're that familiar with the terrain, you probably don't need the system to get where you're going anyway. But system can be genuinely useful. And it is a lot of fun. |
Looks cool too

Honda makes a much better NAV for about the same price....
Though the RX8 has a decent NAV, it's still a waste IMO |

Does the nav cost any money at all after the initial cost. such as a using charge or anything of that sort.
|
The only charge you could incur is for an updated DVD map disk from Navtech. The database delivered with the car in North America is from around the end of 2002. While the roads themselves may not change much, the points of interest you might be searching for may or may not be listed. The current messages I've seen on this forum suggest an udpated DVD from Navtech will be available sometime this summer for an estimated cost of $200. The upgraded DVD is purely optional of course and it's really only necessary if you want the latest and greatest POI updates or there's been a lot of road construction or new development in the area that you live in.

I love the NAV and won't ever buy another car without one. It has never failed me, has never required a reboot, and with its built-in gyroscope, I can drive in Chicago's Loop without a hiccup. I tell people to stop giving me directions... just an address will do fine. My only complaint is that it takes a few minutes to load a new address -- meaning that going to a new location can require two minutes of sitting in the driveway inputting information and waiting for screens to change. The system would benefit greatly from a faster processor.

btw can the NAV system plays movie DVD as well?
|
nope
|
so JUST ONLY for NAV !! ><
|
thanx for telling anywaz
|
Is there any way to delete the history of places I have been to?
|
Although the navigation isn't as great as most cars out there, it's still really useful. I found it best for night time driving because I won't have to look hard trying to find a small street with unlit street sign.

go to setup, then go to edit points, and remove items there. you can also rename and change icons.

The Nav sucks. Disks are 2-3 years old and missing crucial items. Save your $$ and buy a map! Wish I would have.

well the NAV is a nice lil toy, but if you are like most people who drive the car in the city that they live in and as a result know quite well.... is a $3000.00 NAV toy actually worth it??? Do you really think you'll actually use it much in city driving?? I doubt it; It'll probably just add confusion if anything
