how many of you would prefer if the 8 was discontinued?

I know I wouldnt mind, make the car rarer and possibly wanted more, maybe bring up the resale value or at least hold the value better

NoTears316 03-26-2007 10:07 AM

I wouldn't mind seeing it discontinued just to shut the people up that spread rumors about a Mazdaspeed version.

CarAndDriver 03-26-2007 10:45 AM

It would be sad if they did not come out with a replacement of some sort.

labutler 03-26-2007 10:45 AM

I voted yes. I like the fact that I rarely see one on the roads (saw a VR yesterday in summersville, WV - first one in a long time) and discontinuing it would probably make it worth a little more some day waaaaaaaaaaaay in the future (my nephew will own it by then).

And, I really hate to see a Mazdaspeed version come along, because ....

Not that I would really want one, but I probably couldn't afford it anyway

And,

It will lower the value (even more) of the "slow" ones that we all own now.

Lastly, I have a Yellow one and if they make them many more model years, they'll probably add yellow back to the list.

It's got some overhead lifters and some four barrel quads, oh yeah
A fuel injection cutoff and chrome plated rods, oh yeah...

ZoomZoomH 03-26-2007 11:04 AM

the first gen RX-8 lifecycle should be coming to an end soon, guess the question is if Mazduh will release a 2nd gen...

RotaryP7 03-26-2007 11:15 AM

I haven't seen an 8 (except mine) in the last 3 days.. I guess discontinuing the car would probably make it even harder to spot. And it would really make some people turn heads, like the 3rd gen. RX-7.. Which I never see, but amazes me when I do..

Can't forget the value.. >> So yeh..

VRZOOMZOOM 03-26-2007 11:39 AM

I voted yes and i think it would be okay with me as this car is rare as it is, I would only speculate that there might be more interest or value in the car if it was discontinued. From a design perspective, i really think the 8 has it down, i dont' know how and if Mazda re does the 8, will it have the same look and effect.

But i voted yes because it would only make the 8 look more rare and semi-exotic, like what car is that? sort of thing.

Gotian 03-26-2007 11:48 AM

I know that ive seen more FD's than i do rx-8's at times, maybe i shouldve made it clearer by asking if you guys would prefer our 8 was discontinued and a 2nd gen was released im not saying discontinued all together. And personally i dont care about a mazdaspeed version, i'm happy with mine, i love it and it was very affordable, im sure a mazdaspeed would be way overpriced.

CarAndDriver 03-26-2007 11:50 AM

Its pretty rare now. I went all over the San Jose area for a couple days and spotted maybe one, but plenty of Zs.

secret8gent 03-26-2007 12:12 PM

Well my '03 (04 MY) floormats only have the little 'checkbox squares' for production dates through 2008 on the bottom, so clearly it will be finished after that. (proof Mazda has had this decided since the car's release, of course!)

Hehe.

I've got mine, so as long as it stays in good condition [or parts don't get all expensive] I'll be happy.

coastie08 03-26-2007 12:21 PM

No, why would I wish to deprive someone of the pleasure I have by owning an 8?

Besides, more 8's available may equate to greater availability of 3rd party products and replacement parts years down the road. Wouldn't it be a shame if FI kits were no longer developed because there wasn't a large enough market (for the 8 due to it's cancellation) to justify R&D costs?

my .02 anyways

I believe that if the 8's popularity went up there would be R&D for new kits regardless if it was discontinued or not.

Rr#3nesis 03-26-2007 12:34 PM

Not till I get mine! lol

I actually am undecided on this because of the reason you stated. I'd like the aftermarket to take a real liking to this car but I have doubts that it will happen until there are more on the road. At the same time I would like to see the 8's value avoid dropping too far kind of like the cars like the last generations of the RX-7 and Supra which seemed to not really have dropped in value at all in the last few years. But of course they are discontinued!

Detrich 03-26-2007 02:22 PM

to my knowledge, the manufacturer is only obligated to continue providing parts/ support for a vehicle 10 years from when it's officially decommissioned from production.

AdRoCK3217 03-26-2007 02:22 PM

Crossfire.

ZoomZoomH 03-26-2007 02:37 PM

The Mazdaspeed GREASE LIGHTNING edition.

Gotian 03-26-2007 02:50 PM

and the flamers show themselves

I for one do not want to see the RX8 discontinued........I dont want to run out of mulligans.

afgcfan 03-26-2007 04:58 PM

i would like it cus no more ppl would buy it and make it more common, and i think the value would also go up just cus they wont make them anymore.

User24 03-26-2007 07:23 PM

Doesn't make sense. Here's why: by discontinue, you mean release a 2nd gen. The same people who are voting yes for discontinue want to keep it uncommon, but a 2nd gen means more power and a 2 seater--that immediately contradicts the uncommon side. Such a vehicle would sell like the 350Z, and the 350Z is the next Mustang as it is in terms of capturing that demographic's numbers.

Well, your .02 matches my .02. Besides, what if, zeus forbid, something happened to my 8 and I wanted to buy a new one?

N rider89 03-26-2007 07:40 PM

hell no! why would i want to have this car discontinued? sure the value would go slightly up, but only after a long time. make them rarer? they already are rare, i see one about once a day, but compared to seeing 6 Z's and 100 mustangs, im happy about its rarity. this car needs to live longer to really get some more support from the aftermarket.

if they do come out with a 2 seater it wont be an rx-8. it would be an entirely different type of car.

TimzSI 03-26-2007 10:38 PM

The more the better. More parts cars for way down the road!

Razz1 03-26-2007 11:34 PM

Nno

CarAndDriver 03-27-2007 12:53 AM

Even if is not discontinued, the sales will continue to dwindle.

StewyRX8 03-27-2007 10:13 AM

I think it will be stopped in production soon unfortunatley...

Vancouver Blue-8 03-27-2007 11:26 AM

I do prefer it to be discontinue yes, because then my car will be less common. I live in Richmond BC, I have seen quite a few RX-8 in this small area. However, I don't think I agree with the value going up. The RX-7 has been discontinued for a while and I always see them selling at dirt cheap prices, esp FC, probably because they have no A/C ...

FC's sell cheap because they are old and there are a lot of them....FD's on the other hand.

otakurx 03-29-2007 06:34 AM

I wouldn't want it discontinued because it is such a sweet car, and I want the rotary to stick around.

KCKen 03-30-2007 11:01 AM

No for a lot of reasons. The only one not yet mentioned by anyone is the availability of mechanics. It's hard enough to find good, experienced rotary mechanics at dealerships. How hard do you think it would be if there was no longer a source of new rotary owners? I also agree with the "what if something happens to mine" sentiment.

But here's a chilling thought. What if Mazda kept the RX-8 name but made it lame? Think Charger. Right now I enjoy telling people I have an RX-8. I don't want the reaction to go from Oooooh! to Eeeeeeew!

Red Devil 03-30-2007 11:06 AM

I think anyone that voted "yes" for the RX-8 to be discontinued should trade in their car for a Geo Metro, and leave the RX-8, and any other sports car for that matter, to the real car enthusiasts.

BlueRenesis82 03-30-2007 11:17 AM

i love how all these people would prefer the car to be discontinued, so parts and other stuff will cease to be made?

I just wish it was a public vote, then I'd know who to put on my ignore list.
