how many Probe GT to RX8?
I searched for years for a car i could stand to afford and drive after having my 1994 Probe GT for years. finally it was the RX8, and it seems like many others feel the same way. i know at least one BAPOC member with an 8 now (tamas)
what about the RX8 makes it a natural successor to the Probe- on paper they are very different. great brakes, great driver feel, big wheels (16" probe wheels were big in 1993), superior motor, nice interior, looks best in BLACK hehe, drives like a mazda? not the most powerful but has top notch handling. move this to lounge maybe, but its kind of a technical comparison too. :D im not getting rid of my probe- i still enjoy driving it, and after i got my 8 i would have to think twice about what car i was driving sometimes. they even have similar size and shape. james president BAPOC (Bay Area Probe Owners Club) 1998-2000 |
Hey my borther owns a 94 gt probe and he is sick of it too, hes from the CHIPOC area representing Chicago. Well I got my 8 and now he wants one too, why Handling :)

James, you knew I'd chime in :D
I agree with what you said about the similarities - even though we all know that the two cars are not really comparable, but we also have to consider that more than ten years have passed in the meantime. Unfortunately, I need to sell the Probe - I have no extra garage to keep it in, and I just won't watch it parked outside and deteriorate. I hate the idea of selling it, especially seeing how little money I can get for it. But for me, it is also an emotional tie. I love the Probe and I hope I will love the RX-8 just as much ten years from now. As for the best color being the black, well, I have a different opinion :D but black IS certainly beautiful. If just it wasn't that hard to keep it clean and free from swirl marks... |
How about a '93 MX-6?
It's still my daily driver (76 miles/day just for getting to work). 196k miles and climbing fast! I just put new rubber (Yokohama Avid V4S) on all four (Tirerack.com), new rotors up-front (needed extremely badly!), new front pads, new RH CV joint & alignment... for about $900. She drives like a new car once again. ;) Well, almost. A new exhaust would be nice, she's breathing out of a leak hole around the plugged cat right now. :( She fixed herself that way. My bad. You're right about its' resale value... chump change compared to what mine is worth to me. I first discovered the RX-8 while investigating the new Mazda 6 to see if that would eventually be what I would like to replace my MX-6 with. It aint. Neither is my 8. Cuz I'm keeping the MX-6. Ha! She'll get me to work and back for quite some time I'm hoping. That's why I'm putting some new stuff into her. And my 8 is all the happier to sit in the garage instead. It's a nice arrangement that I hope will continue for a good long time. |
I had the Probe GT '94 too- and now an 8.

I actually was behind my old 93 PGT in traffic the other day... damn seeing it and hearing that sweet Borla exhaust brought back memories :o

SO probes conclude to be a nice car with some minor boohoos, but if Im not wrong I read somehwere that probe was one of the good handling cars compared to its class? Ill try getting some proof of that.

Add me to your list of as 1990 Probe owner who's only next car to replace it would be the RX-8 ...

I've owned a Probe GT since 94 - my last new car before the 8. I had a Grand Cherokee a few years ago, but always had the Probe as well.

I had a 93 Probe GT.. went to a 90 Porsche 944S2 cabrio, then to a 1994 NSX, then to a 1994 miata, then to a 2003 S2000, then to a 04 RX-8

I always thought the probe was the only car ford offered in the 90's that was worth a crap. Maybe because it was just a rebodied mx-6? My friend's first car was a silver automatic probe (not gt). While it wasn't fast by any stretch of the imagination it got us around in a fair bit of style and he didn't have any major problems with it.
