How many owners has your car seen?
A thought occurred to me this morning... I wonder how many current RX-8 owners are the first owner of their car.
Put another way: How many owners has your RX-8 had? My own answer is a little tough since I'm the first and fourth owner but I'm guessing that this is an incredibly rare case (possibly even unique given the low volume of the car). |
1st: Nick Saban (5,000 mi)
2nd: Random teacher guy (4,000 mi) 3rd: Me (33,000 mi) |
1st: Canadian snowbird in FL; 24k miles
2nd: me. currently at 31k miles |
Don't know who the 1st was, but she was a super clean garage queen, '04 bought 7/12 with 18.5k.
Currently +72k. |
Original owner.
Next month will be 12 years since I picked up my RX-8. It had less than 2 miles on it when I took delivery. NotaPreppie: oh, and I think RIWWP also did something similar to you. Didn't he buy back his own car years later? |

Yeah, he special ordered it at a dealership in Alabama. It was supposedly one of the last six shipped to the US. He drove it for a few thousand miles, then traded it on a Porsche. (Who knew they have Porsche dealers in Alabama?!). They transferred it to Park Place Porsche, where a teacher bought it. A few thousand miles later, he found out his wife was pregnant, and he put it up for private sale. He eventually let me steal it from him, after receiving no serious offers for three months. I have all of the documentation for the history of the car in my filing cabinet. I wonder if I could eBay the bill of sale with Saban's signature on it? Probably not, since it's an 8. :p

I'm number 9 car is 04 with 53k on clock
|
You're the 9th owner?!
|
1st was a lady bus driver who barely drove it for 5 years before selling, but took great care of it. By coincidence I now live 2 streets away from her.

Yep not many people can afford to put fuel in them over in the UK so people don't keep them long guy i got it from had it a year, he was 22 years old done about 600 mile in it and couldn't afford insurance and fuel haha. Fuel over in USA is peanuts in comparison i couldn't believe how cheap it was to fill my rental car while I in the states.

Forgive my ignorance, but do you have highways and speed limits where you can drive it 'enthusiastically'?
Our country also bum us on tax rates on this car |
max speed is 70 mph?
sad. I usually set my cruise control at about 75 every morning. Pretty cool to hear the stories of everyone's cars. Keep them coming... |
I drove mine new off the lot in April, 2005 .... 8 miles on the odometer
|
Original owner here as well. Got it in November 2003.
|
Too Many!
2 previous owners, both guys. Judging by the state of the driver's side floor mat one of them liked driving wearing stilettos :cussing:

The first owner is a neurologist, I met up with the second owner and got it from him. Don't exactly know what he does, LOL.

sad. I usually set my cruise control at about 75 every morning. Pretty cool to hear the stories of everyone's cars. Keep them coming... In BC, Canada, speed limits on most highways are 50~55 MPH. There is one or two highways where it's 70 MPH, but the ones I drive on, I couldn't maintain 70 MPH on a highway without risking getting pulled over. In general, BC speed limits are too low so cops can cash in on innocent people. Sounds like a conspiracy, but there is a dude who made a video with a scientific view on the speed limits. There are some roads that are just massive speed traps. |

I'm the second owner of mine. A racing buddy bought it special in 2005 with plans to race it (thus the base "unicorn" model), but changed directions and sold it to me bone-stock in early 2008 with 15k on the clock. I've been driving it like I stole it ever since. I thank him for it every time I see him. |
I'm the original. Got it a bit after my birthday in 2004! :)

I'm the second owner on mine - got it at 8900 miles and now 80,000

First owner, new off the lot 2005. A lot has changed in the automotive market and professional life since then, but surprisingly there still isn't a suitable replacement based on my requirements. In the meantime, keeping an old beater car for peace of mind is priceless. Cosmetically, the sun's radiation has started to eat away at the exterior finish, but it all blends into the various key marks from vandalism and door dings.
About to perform my 7th long distance relocation using the rx8 with 47k miles. My daily transportation these days is either of two motorcycles whether rain/humid/cold/wind. The rx8 is kept with the battery disconnected, using a marine-spec disconnect screw (brass shim stock is used to make up the terminal circumference). It is powered up about every other month, to refill on bags of charcoal, paper towels, and 20lb propane tanks in a single trip. Due to the suicide doors, it fits a 110 quart rolling cooler when I need to bring 20 racks of smoked ribs to an event, plus chaffing dishes and more. Several battery maintainers, the best I have so far is the BatteryMinder 2012 AGM that has fulltime desulfation mode, more thorough reconditioning than either of the CTEKs I have (3300, 7002). The discontinued Sears Diehard Platinum is still going strong in the rx8 after 3 years of low usage, haven't needed to test its CCA yet. Due to the aftermarket intake and disconnecting battery every drive, there are hiccups in the rev band until warmed up fully. Been using Legend ZX-2SR premix since the engine replacement, and the remaining 3 gallons of it should last me until I am over 900 years old. Technically I am on the 3rd engine, but the last engine replacement was due to a force of nature and I don't really count it. |
Original owner, bought it new in May 2008.
|
I am 3rd owner.
1st unknown, drove it for less than a year and 11k 2nd owner for about 9 years and 175000 miles. Original engine ate part of an apex seal at 186000. 3rd owner for almost a year pulled it in on a trailer from SoCal and hasn't left my driveway. 186000 miles total. Hope to increase that someday. |
I bought mine with 13k on it and it still had the new car smell. Has 62k now but mostly sits in the garage :/

Original owner club
I bought mine new in spring 2007. Now has under 79k km. Never keep a car longer than 4 years in the past but there is something about this RX8 that I keep going back to. Was very close in replacing it with a m235i but the thought of going to flappy pedal depressed me. Besides the car still runs strong. Got a number of offers from friends but I've turned them down.
At this time I might as well just keep it as a 3rd car status. There will come a day when classic FM RWD cars will be missed and mourned.... And I'll be glad to have experienced it. |
I've had 2 RX-8s: a brand new AT 2005 and a used MT 2005. Originally bought an AT and got bored of not being able to shift gears so I traded in towards the MT, so my current RX8 has had 2 owners. I've had the car for 13 years now with no major problems outside of having the ignition coils replaced a few years ago.

RE: How many owners has your RX8 seen?
I have no idea who the first owner of my 04 silver RX8 was but I bought it from the second owner who bought the car in 2006 after she graduated from college. She is an engineer who studied the wankel engine in college. She knew all about the engine and took very good care of the car.
I bought it about 1 1/2 years ago with just over 71k on the odometer. |
Original owner, bought my 2004 in Jan of 2005 with like 25 miles on it. Has 0 problems with the engine up to 105,000 miles while beating on the motor every chance I got. 0 mods to the car during all 105,000 miles. Only pulled the motor because it had a bad front main seal/front cover gasket and was leaking oil. Spent about 10k in parts over 1-2 years and now have about 4k miles on the rebuilt REW motor.

2nd owner
I bought my 2007 in 2010 with 7300 miles on it. It now just turned 18,000 miles.
