How to keep seats looking new???

Any ideas on how to keep The suede/leather sand color seats in the 06 rx8 looking new? Is It easy to maintain and keep clean over time?. Im currently using seat covers that don't fit right and look like pillow cases. It also covers my airbags. :scratchhe

The seat covers sound nice... Or you could try not sitting while you drive.

Find a "quality" Detail Shop and have them cleaned once every 6 months or so.
Don't go to the local carwash either.

I have the same car and color as you and was wondering the same thing. I do like the seat covers but doesnt that defeat the purpose in spending the extra $$ for the shinka?

Seat covers defeat the purpose of having nice seats. Usually, people get them when their seats are too far gone already. There are "sprays" that make a "barrier" against stains. I use a boot water proofer for my overhead and carpets. You can buy 4 aerosol cans at your local Footlocker or Athlete's Foot for $20. I spray my interior once a month. Then again, I have black leather which does not stain.

My aunt used to put towels on the seats and took them off when she got out. Kinda tacky, but highly effective. If you are usually the only one in the car you can just put one on your seat before you drive? I would'nt though...

Having them professionally cleaned is a good idea if you can keep doing it regularly without breaking your pocket book?

Don't eat in your car.

Agreed, i've always found this funny myself, and sometimes even find myself in this current "protective" mode. However, when you think about it, what are you protecting it FOR? to keep i looking nice...under the cover?

Who ever cares what it looks like under the cover, if you never get to see it! In a way, you're simply protecting it so that the next person (assuming you sell it) will get to take the benifits of a nice seat that you never got.

Most'll likely rip me for this, but the same has always gone for car bras as well. Why drive around a car with a butt-ugly bra on so that someone else will get to drive it with it off?

Who cares how it looks if you never getta show it off! Find some kind of heavy duty leather cleaner/conditioner and enjoy those seats!

Zainos Leather in a Bottle. Once every three months or so.

Also, try and "step" in and out of the car. Difficult with the RX8 however most people will "slide" out of the car, increasing wear and tear. Sounds silly, but over time it adds up! Also, keep it out of the sun as much as possible.

Just clean your seats regularly and save the Mazda seat covers—which really are great—for when the seats can get messed up. I use 'em for the beach, when me and my passenger are covered with suntan oil and sand, for example.

ZoomZoomH 01-16-2007 09:28 AM

well i don't have fancy leather/alcantara seats in my base model 8, so i'm not really covering anything pretty looking to begin with, on with the seat covers! :o:

Gray06 01-16-2007 11:44 AM

I have the same seats and worry a little but I hate to cover them up. A towel while I am messing around.
