how to get rid of minor scratches
Some dude decided to dip his hand in some mud and smear it on the hood of my car. After washing it off, there are now noticible scratches to the paint surface. Does anyone know of a product out there that will get rid of them?
Should I consider getting it re-painted? is that doable or even practical? |
Depends on how "minor" they are.
mine usually buff right out with a coat of wax. A good re-paint will be almost $1000,(at least it is around here, check your local paint/autobody shop.) so I would say it's NOT practical |

For minor scratches, I've had good luck with Meguiar's Scratch-X. I had some light scratches on my rear bumper, and it got nearly all of them out. But it took a while—I had to keep rubbing and reapplying, with plenty of elbow grease, for 20 minutes or so. If you try Scratch-X, be patient.

use turtle wax polish and buff it out, then a nice coat of wax and ur all set. just depends on how "minor" the scratch is.

thanks for all the replies. I'll try to post some pics ASAP.

The general rule of thumb with scratches is if you can catch your fingernail on them it has to be repainted. If you nail doesn't catch you can buff it out with a good polish or wax.

I second the scratch X first. most luckly the mud had some rocks in it and scratched, If its deep, you might need to have buffed out, or you can try usiing a color crayon of your paint and then color it over to conceal it and then wax over it........thats a temp solution to hiding scratches so it blends with the paint consideirng crayons are wax themselves.
