How Fast Can you Take a turn
 

Hey Guys,

If on a winding road, how fast can the 8 make a turn without feeling like the car is about to turn over?
I have an 8 and I know the balance is great, but i've never had the guts to take a tight turn at more that 20mph. I just Fear the worst may happen.

That's a very vaugh ?. It would depend on the angle of the curve, and the skill of the driver.

Probably faster than 20 - go to an autocross, get an instructor to ride along, and find out first hand. Oh and read this: turnfast.com - start with the basics (seating, steering position), you'll be surprised how much such simple "common sense" things can boost your confidence as a driver.

No problem, I love showing people that racing techniques can be applied to everyday driving situations. Improving your driving can be something fun to make the daily trudge to work a bit more tolerable.

I know every month or so I get the bug to improve some new aspect of my driving. A few months back it was my pedal transitions, before that it was my visual field, last month it was smoothing out my heel-toe, and this month it's smoothing out my steering inputs. My friends (now you guys too!) probably think I'm crazy, but it's something interesting that helps keep me focused on the road.

When people ask me how it handles, I just say well I can take the institute exit going around 70-75 when its posted 25. The exit im talking about is a tiny circle and fairly impressive considering other motorists slow down to <25 to take it.

I wouldn't advise driving as fast as possible though around corners until you learn the car first. GL

i go fast or slow depending on my mood. Though you're not really specifying what kind of turns..

Depending on the condition of the road, slope and debris the car should never roll (as long as you are on the road). You will understeer which could result in you going off the road and rolling.

Set up some cones in a huge open lot or go to an autocross and practice, get to know your car.

You can take any modern car or suv (might get some tire liftoff) at 100mph in a flat smooth lot and cut the wheel all the way and none of them will roll over, they will all just understeer.

Lots of factors depend on how fast you can take a turn; Is it wet out? icey? sandy? open road with slants or closed track. Also what kind of condition are your tires in? what kind of suspention do you have? have you ever pushed you or your cars driving limits under any of the above circonstances and are you a skiled driver in anyof the above conditions?

Find a good sharp turn or two that you take on your daily commute. These are turns you know really well from driving them every day.

Just start taking them faster and faster, bit by bit, until you get a feel for what the car can handle. The RX8 is pretty forgiving, so you aren't likely to get into trouble as long as you don't go completely nuts. Of course, you have to be careful of things like road condition, other traffic, etc.

Getting familiar with what your car can do on those turns you know really well will give you an idea of what you can do in any turn.

When the front tires skid, I know I must have turned 90 degree too fast or incorrectly or both. Somewhere in the 30 mph area and 90 degree turn. 80 degree sunny, dry conditions. Usually the back tires do not skid. But, that is with F1 all season tires, which skid much easier than stock summer tire.

How can you tell if the front or back tires are skidding?

By the end of the car that's sliding out of the turn. If it's the front tires you'll get understeer, if it's the rear tires you'll get oversteer. If it's all four tires, congratulations.

Yeah it definately depends on alot of conditions like angle wet/dry/cold/hot but this car will def stick very well even if you would lose it it's very forgiving
