how do you carry pets in an RX-8?
 

Okay so maybe I'm terrible at looking but I did search for this topic so I apologize if this has been answered before, but:

How do you carry your pet in an RX-8?

I have a husky puppy that would always sit in passenger seat of my cheap Honda.. so a larger-sized dog unable to fit in a carrier, and just last week I bought my 8 and I'm terrified at the idea of carrying a dog with my new leather interior.

How did you guys resolve this? Do you let your pet in your car or do you just use another vehicle when carrying them?

lol jk, i use the old 97 neon to take the dogs anywhere, not sure i would ever want them in the 8 :/

I wouldn't dare to carry my dog in the RX8 and he's a small breed.

Pets aren't to be confused with people - especially when it comes to transporting them in cars. Its dangerous for you as a driver, and dangerous for the animal should there be a collision. We have a Teafco Argo Petascope in the small size for our Norwich Terrier - it suits the RX-8 well as it sits neatly on either the front passenger seat or either of the rear seats, and can be belt restrained if desired. The dog loves it - put it on the floor and he jumps right in as he knows it means going on a big adventure in the car.

The medium one would do your pup for now but later on when its a full sized dog.... that'll be harder. Maybe their Pup Buggy?

You aren't going to be able to carry your husky puppy around in your 8 for long. That's way too much dog for a sports car.

I won't bring my basset in my 8, use my wife's van for that. But I drive with my pug fairly frequently. She has a harness that she wears, through which the seatbelt passes to hold her in place. I usually carry a pillow to put on the seat under her to give her the elevation she needs to see out the window as she most desperately wants to do :)

When it comes to chick appeal, my puppy is the best mod I can have :)

^Thats a very Manly dog. (jk) My rear neighbor has 2 of those in white. Its funny seeing them aggressively bark at me like if they were Dobermans. :uhh:...

Anyways, I usually carry my dog up front with me and the wife out back in the trunk. I rather hear the dark bark randomly then the wife which i can understand. :eek: ( i dont have a wife, nor a dog at the moment)

i'd say get a seat cover and one of the harnesses that you can put on fido i usually just have the gf hold the dog lol

I put down pillows and blankets in the back seat to even out the sides so my 70lb pointer-mix could pick sides. He was usually pretty good and would stay back there, but sometimes he would walk up the center console and "visit" me in the front. Just cover the concerned areas to prevent scratches. Usually, I would block the front off with a large throw pillow.

Sort of moot now, I lost him in my divorce, but I still find his hair in the car to this day. An unrestrained puppy might be a bit much for an RX-8, but once they're used to it, they'll be fine. Ideally, none of this was very safe, but there's nothing better than having your best bud around for a long car trip!

Don't get a seat cover if you have side airbags; they do not play well together.

God almighty ! I would never carry a pet in my 8, we must look for an alternate means of transportation as some items in life must remain sacred. A few years ago I had a four barrel, 440 " Road Runner " what a machine, low growl and power fury screaming like a banshee ( reminding me of my ex. when my pay check was short ).
I never let her ride in my "Runner " I had a large skateboard with a cage afixed, four wheel independant suspension, a fleece lined milk crate for seating, I would put the bitch in the cage, tie the skateboard on to the hitch and take off like I stole the bloody thing !
But no pets in your 8's just not done I'm afraid,,,,,,,,have a great day !!

I take my dog to work in my 8 every day, but he's small...a 16lb Lhasa. I just put a blanket on the seat and go. He usually just lays in the seat and sleeps until we arrive at work. I love my car, but it's just a car so I don't worry too much, but then my dog doesn't thrash anything either. Maybe a larger dog would be an issue?

45lb English Setter...13 going on 14 year olds.

I just put the seat back all the way down on the passenger and put the carpeted floor mats on the seat with a blanket over the top.

He falls asleep in about 45 seconds.

Alternatively he has ridden on my girlfriends lap just long enough to drop him off at the vet.

I may try one of the back seat hammocks since the 8 is low enough for him to climb into the back seat with the rear door open. Just a picture of the hammock (not in the 8 and not my dog).

i would never put a hairy dog in any car cuz i will find hair everyday no matter how good i clean it

usually when i have the dogs with me, my fiancee is with me. our dogs are like 5-6 pounds each so they just sit on our laps. they're small enough so both of them can sit on her lap if need be. if they happen to have dirty paws at all, i keep a blanket in the trunk and we just keep them from jumping up on the interior. i wouldn't really know what to do with a bigger dog. a lot of it just depends on if your dog just sits there or wants to constantly move around in the car. that makes a huge difference as to what all you'd need to secure your dog.

Unrestrained pet in a head on collision = dead pet. What do you think the trunk is for.And bloody retarded if you drive with one on your lap.

nah, i have a yorkshire terrier & a yorkie/bichon mix. pretty close though :)

i think in a head on collision, your dead pet would be the least of your worries (ie - being dead yourself) i know 8's stand up great in collisions but when it is a head on, nothing is what i would call safe.
