How do I remove the rear quarter panels?

my current ones are rusted like a beotch. Needless to say, I found a donor car with little to no rust.

All in all, I'm planning on cutting my current ones out and welding new ones on. Only concern I have are the reinforcements.

If anyone has done this, knows someone that has done this or knows where I can find out how I may proceed to do this myself. Please let me know.

I miss my old RX8, I can't wait to restore it.

That is the only other case I found when searching for your question. I wish I could help, but I really can't. I hope all goes well for you and your 8. I tried...

iSki123,
I am about to embark on the same project.
Was your project successful?
Any pictures or lessons learned from it?
Pictures before, during, after?

pretty sure I have a copy of the RX8 Collision Repair manual somewhere that shows all of that …
.

No worries Team, I got you.
Here are the RX-8 manuals including the collision Repair
Foxed.ca - Mazda RX-7 Manuals

my bad, it’s called the body shop manual and I overlooked that it is on the Fox.ca website

nordic04 06-05-2022 04:48 AM

Jedi and Team,
Thanks for the link. That will be handy as I am going to harvest the parts from the donor car in the coming days.
I found a green one right here in my local salvage yard in Pontiac.
It had a side impact on the passenger side with slight damage to the rear quarter but the driver’s side is in great condition.

nordic04,

Have you made any progress on your journey? I am about to do the same thing on a wrecked 40th I just picked up. Curious to see how it went.

nordic04 12-02-2022 08:48 PM

RotaryJG,
I have not started this project yet though my local salvage yard has a donor car that I could chop off the driver side.
I did enough searching to find this excellent video from Momentum Garage doing exactly what I need done with my RX-8
I think he has this as a 3 part series but he does a great job explaining what to do and time-lapsing the repetitive stuff.
Hope this helps. Good luck with the project and please share your before and after pictures.

Just finished replacing both quarter panels. Did one side before I found the spot weld method which was easy easier lol... Lots of pics here

Thank you for the kind words! I had never done anything like that before but there was really only one way to learn. Thankful the idea I had in my head actually panned out lol
