How do I identify what options I have?

There are many packages available for the RX-8. I bought a used 2004 yesterday and I have no idea what options are on it. All I know is that it kicked serious ass, and was a no-brainer for $22K.

Any help? Is there a VIN lookup tool or some sort of "RX-8 for dummies" list?

Compared to a G35 the options list on an RX-8 is minimal. Go to www.mazdausa.com and look at the 2006 options / packages, other than colors not much as changed. For example if you have a moon-roof you do not have a base. Same goes for 18” wheels and the HID headlights.

yeah, what he said. "search and you shall find " :)

namrag69 05-28-2006 01:13 AM

NgoRX8 05-28-2006 01:18 AM

the 04 model options are the same as the 05

scott i am not going to sugar coat this for you...

it is not rocket surgery here...... i am just the sense of reality going.... do you look at anything?

simple

in you have a 6 speed, going to guess you do.....

what you are going to yell at me with all the info you have given?

if you have fog lights. you have a sport....

if you have cloth seats and a moonroof you have a touring model...

if you have leather seats and a moonroof you have a grand touring model.

and if you paid 22k for it and you have no idea what options are on it you are an idiot.....

sorry wake up call for life....

if you have shiny triangles on the front back, you have the rotary accent package.

If you have a small ground effect under that shiny triangle the same color as your car, you have the front air dam. If you have pieces like it in front of and behind your rear wheels as well, you have the appearance package.

If you have a trunk spoiler, that's an option too. So is a spare tire, and chrome vent strakes.

Like expo1 said - get the list of options from the Mazda website and check them off one-by-one. You should be able to make an educated guess about your trim level (Sport, Touring or Grand Touring), but the actual options are more important.

For instance, mine is a Touring model, but it has most of the options from the Grand Touring package also added, plus the NAV which is not part of a trim package.

However, like Swoope said, you really should know what options your car *has*. With a little homework you could easily find which options your car does *not* have.

Well, I worded my question wrong, so I have no problem with people calling me an idiot.

My question was answered regarding the packages i.e., the 2006 packages are the same as the 2004 packages. Some options are available for all or some packages on an indivudual basis. So it seems I have the RX-8 6 Speed with the Grand Touring Package and some additional options (rotary accent, leather, moonroof, Bose stereo, rear spoiler, and appearance package).

Regarding my spending $22K for something that I didn't know all about, it's easy for me. It was the blue book value for a base model with leather seats alone link and because it was either that or a 1989 Porsche 928 for the same price. So while I may not have gotten the best deal and may not have known *exactly* what I was getting, I knew I was getting a kick ass car for what was a reasonable price to me.

Thanks all for the info, I can be less of an idiot now.

True. Should have read more and posted less.

But then again, I have an RX-8 in my driveway and most of the world doesn't. So there! :bootyshak

Welcome to life at RX8club.com. ;)

You're right to question the configuration. I own an "odd duck" that Mazda made. For a while I thought I had everything from the GT package except the leather seats, but it turned out I was missing the heater side mirrors too.

Read and learn, read and learn...... There's much to learn here. :)

Winfree 05-30-2006 12:47 PM

You did Ok, does it have side mirrors and heated seats? Silver or black battery covers?

It has heated seats (why I turned them on in 90 degree heat yesterday is because they were there ;) ). The engine covers are black. Does that make a difference?

zoom44 05-30-2006 04:39 PM

heated seats is GT

Alright, this one I've never heard of - I thought all the RX-8s came from the factory with black plastic covers on the engine, battery, airbox, fuse box......

Call MazdaUSA with the VIN number. They should be able to help ya.
