How do I get my back wheels off?

Hello, I've got what I think is a strange problem and I'd love to solve it before I go to work on monday morning.

I decided to spray my rotor hubs and calipers.

Although i've taking wheels of cars before i thought i'd better read the manual first just incase there is something special that needs to be done first, but no, it just says loosen nuts jack car up remove nuts and take off wheel.

Great the only thing is, the wheel did come off, I tried both rear wheels and spent 2 hours before moving onto a front wheel which was also stuck however it came off eventually (just picture it, some big guy lying on his drive way with a wheel on his chest).
So I thought I'd better ask here before I end up breaking my car because of something I didn't know about.

Anyway I still need to get those wheels off, anybody got any ideas.

Oh and BTW, I did remove all 4 nuts before trying to pull the wheel off, sorry I mean 5 nuts.

Daniel.

try hitting the top or front or back of the wheel with the bottom of your foot. almost like a kick. it is probably stuck from brake dust/road grime/rust build up.

Sometimes they get carried away at the dealership with an impact wrench and torque them on too tight. Just get a breaker bar or an extension for your ratchet to remove them. It helps to loosen them before you jack up the car (a bit careful )

Same with torquing them on...tighten them up tight...and torque them on the ground after you have taken the car off the jack.

hope this helps!

Hit the wheel slightly on the edge or shake it well holding an edge of the wheel. If the jack stands are pretty sturdy just kick the wheel it should come right off.

The problem is galvanic corrosion between the aluminum wheel and the iron hub face (he said he took the lug nuts off, people! ).

One thing you can try to free the wheels is to put the lug nuts back ON - but don't tighten them all the way, tighten them finger tight and then back off a couple of turns. Now, lower the car off the jack and onto the ground completely. If the weight of the car doesn't break the wheels loose from the hubs (try pushing or rocking the car side to side), you can even drive it to get a cyclical load on the wheel/hub interface. If you have to drive, do it extremely slowly (like 2 mph), maybe back and forth in the driveway. The loose lugs will prevent the wheel from falling right off when it breaks loose.

Regards,
Gordon

1. Jack up the rear of the car.
2. Remove all the bolts.
3. Start up the car and take the speed up to 120 mph.
4. Retrieve wheels from neighbor's lawn.

Just kidding. If it's the first time, you more than likely need to shake them a little to loosen them. They were put on too tight.

take off 4 of the lug nuts. loosen the fifth one but don't take it all the way off. hit the tire around (while the car is up in the air) until it breaks loose from the hub. might need a couple taps or a couple hard smacks. hit it back an forth on the sides. if that doesn't work hit the bottom of the backside. if you have a softface deadblow hammer, that'll work even better.

dropping the car, etc. etc. involves too much work. just smack the ****** off.

Thanks everyone, I got one of em' off and painted the rotor, although the dry in 15 minutes seems to take 2 hours, that messed up my plans abit.

It seems things had rusted quite nicely, anyway thanks again,

Daniel.
