Watched the video.

I do enjoy watching the engineering aspects of it. Won't be holding my breath for its realization, though.

Great video - I love watching that rotary engine model with the colored lights! But I also have doubt about saving the rotary design with "skyactiv" techniques. Those skyactive piston engines are generally set up for MPGs and low emissions, not for power/fun!

Honestly, I think they should just stop trying to please every market and Just make a great sports car and forget the MPG's. They can make up the difference with the rest of there fleet. I feel the automotive landscape will be changing drastically in the next 5 years thanks to Tesla and the automakers following suit. I feel the RX8 didn't do well because they tried to please a sedan market while trying to build a sports car. I wish they would drop a 3 rotor NA, ditch the side doors and build a RX7.

This is all my uneducated opinion and I'm sure there's a bunch of big picture I'm not seeing, just hoping and dreaming..

And waiting for these ten posts to be done so I can start my own thread......

Go tell that to EPA or the stockholders of Mazda.

I am pretty convinced that the upcoming rotary extender EV is a good start. Instead of being a skunkworks project that doesn't have nearly as many resources available to them(RX-8), it makes much more sense to develop a high-volume vehicle that pleases the general buyers so the R&D cost can be justified. Then, when the technology is further refined, we can have the halo sports car again.

It's like the LS engine. No, it wouldn't be as refined as it is now if the cheaper iron block LY, LM, etc. engines don't exist for trucks. Corvette and Camaro SS alone wouldn't make enough sales to continue the development.
