Holy.... aaahhhhh this is nice

So I've been lusting over the RX8 since I first saw one about a year and a half ago. As of 4:00 this afternoon, I NOW OWN ONE!!!!

Holy shit I've had so much fun driving it today. I actually went up to Carmax to get another car (a 9-3) transfered from Atlanta and when they were doing the paperwork for the transfer I walked around the lot. Wouldn't you know they had a blue (yes, the color I've been lusting over for a year and half) on the lot. I had my nephew with me (9 years old) and I was like dude look at that car. He was of course like "sweet, that's freakin cool". I said yea that's what I've wanted for a while and in his genious 9 year old mind came up with ".... well why don't you get that car instead". I went in and got the guy to let me test drive it (only the 4th time I've test drove one in the past year) and it was a done deal. As of about 4 o'clock this afternoon I've been driving it around town (so far, three random complements and looks for days). Oh, and the drive is simply AMAZING! I could write more but I think I need to make up an excuse to drive it some more.... hmmm. Screw it, I'm just going to drive it around for no reason.

Oh yea, I forgot to say I upgraded from a 99 Pontiac Sunfire (don't ask... what I got from a recent divorce). '99 Sunfire (I HATE MY FREAKING CAR, DRIVING SUCKS TO --> '04 RX8 (Holy.... aaahhhhh this is nice).

Did I mention I'm having a blast.

Now this is just getting silly. I actually woke up early this morning (like before my alarm clock went off, totally not me) because I was EXCITED about the drive to work. Then when I pulled up at 7:50 I figured, you know what, I still have 10 more minutes to drive. So around I went until 7:59 when I turned her off to come into work. What did I do then..... watched the clock for lunch time to drive around for an hour. Now I'm back to watching the clock for the day to end so I can drive some more..... long days at work, fun times in the car.

I'm extra excited about after work cuz I have the kids this evening so I get to show it to them (they're only 3 and 5 but have been bugging me to get a new car for a month or so now).

So does it ever get old or do you guys who have had your cars for a while still just "feel good" when you drive it?

hemanrulez 11-21-2005 01:45 PM

Haha, how old are you?

Nemesis8 11-21-2005 01:47 PM

I park mine outside my window at the office - it's an addiction for sure.

Raptor2k 11-21-2005 01:48 PM

Lol, it'll start to sink in, but you'll always enjoy it. It's very satisfying and gives you relief in a stressful day, knowing you have revs up to 9000 waiting for you.

The downside is that if you ever have to travel with a different car, your attachment to the 8 starts to get to you. The two CELs and airbag light got me stuck with a Mazda 3 and a Malibu from the dealer under warranty...it was a nightmare.

Then there's mods :)

lshu 11-21-2005 01:49 PM

I have had my car for 5 months, and let me tell you, it does NOT get old! I still look forward to driving at every chance I get. Every time my friends and I go somewhere, I always volunteer (and they always opt for the 8 too). Now I've developed a (good/bad?) habit of taking every corner and on-ramp at twice the speed that other cars go... more so now that my RB swaybars installed : :p:

KYLiquid 11-21-2005 01:59 PM

looks great!, Congrats.

licid222 11-21-2005 02:18 PM

I'm 25 (was waiting for the age to hit so insurance wouldn't kill so bad. Its still pretty bad since I err.... have a few speeding tickets. I'm sure I won't have ANY problems with speeding tickets in this....... yea, I should probably just get used to the high insurance).

Its parked outside my window stuffed between half a parking lot of BMWs, another quarter a parking lot of Lexus', and then some other random cars. I can honestly say its the nicest looking think in the parking lot.

Quick question for you guys. It doesn't have the spare tire kit with it and I do a lot of road trips to remote places so a spare is a must. Can I just go get a donut and throw it in the trunk on trips? Probably a stupid question, but every other car I've ever had came with a spare. I knew this one didn't have one, just haven't thought about it too much. Just made some reservations for a week of work down in nowhere southern Arkansas next week so I kinda need to get this taken care of. I read some threads that popped up on a search but didn't see any where somebody just grabbed a donut from walmart or something. Is it possible or do you have to get some type of "special" donut?

ezrider55 11-21-2005 02:25 PM

Look in the parts for sale section. Do the potection mods. Enjoy.

JRichter 11-21-2005 02:31 PM

Yep I've had mine for a couple of months now and I still go driving for no reason. It never gets old. I work less than a mile from where I work, so simply driving back and forth to work is not enough.

I also have to walk up to the window at work and look at it every couple of hours. It looks very distinctive looking down on it from the 2nd floor window. Makes the other cars look like blobs and boxes. :)

RX8rider 11-21-2005 02:41 PM

I've had mine for over a year now and I still look for excuses just to get out and drive around. It's honestly just as fun now as the day I got it, if not better because I know how she behaves :)

Transam kid 01 11-21-2005 02:41 PM

Congrats dude, welcome

khtm 11-21-2005 02:58 PM

Congrats, hope you got MT.

This mostly depends on your brakes (Touring and Grand Touring packages have larger brakes). To most directly answer your question - No, we cannot just wander into Wal-Mart or Costco, grab any old steel rim and have it fit over our brakes. It's not a "special" donut, but we need the right rim.

I second the suggestion to look for someone on the forum or e-bad selling one near you. You might also check prices at your local dealer. If you just intend to set it in the bottom of the trunk on certain trips then you don't need to pay for the installation (and once installed they block the trunk light  ). You'll need to find a local dealer you can trust for occassional service work anyway.

Welcome to the club - search, read, enjoy. :)

Cool-Blue-Dad 11-21-2005 03:08 PM

P.S. I'm jealous of your front rotary accent. ;)

Luds 11-21-2005 03:19 PM

i've had mine little over a year now and NO it's not getting old at all. after i park it and walk away, i still find myself turning around and looking at it. and now that i've gotten used to the gearbox and handling, it's a blast taking it out everytime. congrats and welcome!

licid222 11-21-2005 03:35 PM

Yea I got the MT. That's another thing that's making this so much fun. I learned on a MT and drove one up till, well I guess five years ago now when my first child was born. Wanted to smoother ride for the baby. So not only did I get this great ride, but I also get to play with gears again (although its hard to get used to even being able to rev up to 9k rpms even when I wanted to test the redline). Oh and the part about having that 6th gear. I've only touched it once, but just having it makes me smile.

As for the spare tire I guess I'll hit up my local dealers (two in town) and see which one can give me the best deal. Only other option I can think of is to check out the local junk yards to see if there is an 8 with either a regular tire or a donut I can get. I need it by next Monday so I can't browse too much.

licid222 11-21-2005 03:38 PM

Oh yea, and thanks for the compliment on the front accent. Its kinda odd, the car came with most of the body accents, but no spoiler (that's going to be a Christmas present to myself I believe).

NoTears316 11-21-2005 03:44 PM

congrats!
