hmmit happend 6 times now, has this happend to you?

all 6 times, same occasion. i was exiting an on ramp or clover leaf in 6th gear around 45-55MPH and right as i complete my turn/enter , the following lights pop up.

ABS, DSCoff light(the one with the picture of the car), E-Brake light on, and cel light..

and all 6 times i called up my local Mazda Dealership immediatly and told themwhat happend, and their response? 'oh just pull over turn the car off, wait 10 seconds and turn it back on' if it's still there then bring it in...

I think next time this happens and the dealership is still open, im going to drive the 8 over there and have them take a look at this.

Has this ever happend to anyone on this board?? i think this is very weird... :Eyecrazy:

Sounds like an electrical connector problem to me. Loose connection, bad connector, or something like that.

expo1 07-13-2006 09:11 PM

Have you tried this same thing in 4th or 5th but at the same 45-55 MPH? I think my RX-8 would leave me if I drove 45 mph in 6th.

Crazy Rx-8 Driver 07-13-2006 09:50 PM

yea i've tried it in 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th.. it only happends when im cruising in 6th gear.

on the phone the techs have no idea, they tellme the same damn thing, im hoping it happens again soon so i can bring it in with all the lights lit up.

Don't you love dealerships...!?!

Moostafa29 07-13-2006 10:07 PM

Hopefully it won't happen again. You should probably at least be in 4-5th gear around that speed though.

Jedi54 07-14-2006 10:48 AM

Definitely go get it checked out. Does the car stall or the lights just come on?

limepro 07-14-2006 10:56 AM

you know when u are first learning to drive MT and u stall the car and all the lights come on i think its telling you that u are about to do that 6th gear going 45? but seriously have it checked out

Shifty Devil 07-14-2006 11:07 AM

Maybe it's the Rx-8 version of the stall-warning light.

Patient: "It hurts when I do this . . . "
Doctor: "Don't do that."

The really sad part is that the Maz DUH techs couldn't even come up with "don't do 45 in 6th" as a response. Man I fear the day I actually need them . . .

From 45-50 the car wasnt even stalling when the lights when on. by the time i enter the freeway or finish the turn, i am at around 50+ so you're telling me you dont do 6th at 50+ MPH cruising speeds? slowly got her up to 60+ car was running fine, just all the important lights were on.

but if the lights are not on when i get it checked out, i'll just get the car back with a 'oh nothings wrong with it, you're on crack.' response from the techs.

so im hoping it happens again so i can bring it in to 'show' them what's wrong and make them 'fix' it if they know how/what it is first.

That's about the fastest way to kill your engine next to an untuned turbo. Rotarys hate bogging...

haha, usually i do keep the RPM's up at about 4K, but i was thinking wouldnt 6th gear save gas milage? as long as i dont floor the car in 6th, which is very bad for the car and will bog the vehicle. but i dont, so im not too worried about being in 6th gear at that speed.

my best gas milage was 317miles off of 13.1 gallons. so 24mpg isnt bad right?

not bad at all i was just messing but ya i usually get up to speed before going into 6th and as long as i dont hit traffic ill get 23-24 mpg going about 80 constant. if i hit traffic it goes down to about 21mpg city i get about 18-19

He's not bogging the engine. He's coming off an off-ramp so he's off throttle, coasting or engine braking, I would guess around 2K rpms. He's not hurting his engine.

I would agree with Therm8, most likely a loose sensor or connector that the g-force in the turn is causing to lose connectivity.
