Hit 107 MPH and suddenly slowed down
Anyone had that experience on their RX8?
Can't say I have. Though, I also haven't gotten much over 90...are you sure you didn't hit the fuel cutoff for the gear?
No. I didn't redline. It's done that twice already. I have to do some more runs and see if I can break that.
Never experienced that before although I don't take the car to those speeds often. Do your RPMs just drop or something?
you have an automatic yours must be governed at that speed... and if so i feel sorry for you that is a slow speed
i have, where u low on gas? u may have to have ur dealer reprogram ur ECU, thats how i fixed it, i was low on gas, but still had enough where it shouldn't have slowed down. reprogram ECU fixed that

Just tonight I was winding her up, and the low fuel light was on, and it cut off when I hit about 115. I have the 6 speed and have taken it up to 141 before. So I was thinking that maybe it had something to do with my low gas. I have the MSP04 flash on my car. Maybe it's time for N.

This has been reported before. I think it has to do with a lot of hard driving, but I have had it happen after just a few minutes of driving before. A little unpredictable
Thank God the brakes don't act the same way. -Mr. Wigggles |
well it depends on what kinda slow down do you mean...can you just not go any fasters and/or check engine light come on?.
My cat went out/was out from the factory (I didn't know it and check engine light didn't come on for awhile). After some hard driving and about 105-110 was all the faster it would go and I kinda just thought I had to break in the engine a little more. And on my way back from a long road trip the check engine light came on and wouldnt go over 80. Got it back to shop replaced cat and now it purrs like never before. Also if you just start it up and take off like a bat outta hell without letting it warm up it will cutoff but I doubt thats what its doing. |
Just think...in a few more years when OBD-III goes wireless, this post will be because the state/fed government hacked into your ecu and told it to slow your ass down. =/

Happened to me on the track, got a CEL also. It was the last run of the day long too. I was also below ¼ tank. When I went under 6000 RPM it ran fine. I think this occurred for a couple of reasons. I was at Watkins Glen, which has different track elevations. Low gas, going uphill on a straight, high speed & RPM lead to a misfire. That caused CEL and the reduction in speed. Took it to the dealer, all they did was replace the plugs. I recommend having the plugs & coil packs checked.
was it cold out?
Happened to me with a CEL. Dealer reflashed ECU. No problem after. Car will also do this over 7k rpm, without a CEL, if it's not completely warmed up. Will go into limp mode to protect engine.
Yup, right when I saw that cop up ahead and jumped on my brakes! But now that I think of it, I was going more like 120.
I got up to 115mph had to slow down cuz of the cops lol

No its not |
Yep, happened to me too. It was diagnosed as an engine missfire. They replaced my plugs and flashed the ecu.
happend to me once...but I was really really low on gas and doing about 120!
Glad it did I didnt realize how little gas i had. |
was it a wall ?
Funny.....no that was when I first had it.....now I dont have it...but I would have had a better excuse for crashing if I was going that fast....not so much!
hasnt this been discussed before along with the rumored governed top speed for automatics?

but this top out isn't really about speed it is about RPMs, temperature and engine safety |
