Highest WHP N/A?

Alright, so I've already searched and couldn't find much (most results came up with FI RX8s).

I'm just wondering how close I can get to 300 WHP N/A? I'm seriously considering going FI eventually, however if I could get to 300 or pretty close that might be good enough for me.

CTrx8 04-29-2010 08:35 AM

300 or close - you'll need to go FI.

I forget which member said that the highest a race team got was 230 NA, with the stock paper intake and some porting? So if you can't beat a race team budget, you ain't beating those numbers!

adamwzl 04-29-2010 10:56 AM

Also the aftermarket parts jedi has on his car. Cost about the same as a brand new one. Just an FYI.

I am also taking the route of getting as much hp out of an N/A 8 as possible and let it be. But I'm praying between 205-215 whp.

The Reverend 04-29-2010 10:58 AM

you can get 300whp but it won't be with the renesis!

That is all I am hopig to get too, but to be honest I don't know where to start... nothing gives you more than 3 hp it seems ad I havent found a cpu for the series II. I am afraid that with a CAI and exhaust, keeping the cat thanks to inspections etc, the best I can do is 5 whp. wish there was something else but it really seems that Mazda made this thing pretty top notch from the factory.

You'll find quite a few threads that look at N/A in depth.

One of the highest WHP N/A RX8's was heavily modified including at least a full 3 inch exhaust, long tube headers as well as engine management.

You'll easily spend the same amount of money chasing 20whp that you would spend on a full FI setup.

adamwzl 04-29-2010 12:02 PM

Everything that I am doing is the Revi with intake duct, AP, BHR ignition, mid pipe, upgraded spark plug wires, bhr radiator. Then on to the suspension. But I believe with those mods I would hope for at least 205-210 whp.

If I choose to go FI those upgrades will be needed anyway.

Edit:

Also when I talk about going FI, I plan out money for anything and everything that could go wrong will. So I see chasing 20hp from an N/A a little cheaper than FI. When I do go FI it will be done by the best of the best, I don't want any major problems.

PhillipM 04-29-2010 03:08 PM

As everyone has said, you're not going to get anywhere remotely close to 300rwhp with the Renny, 210-215 with aftermarket bolt ons perhaps.

no he's not unless he's had major changes recently

also incorrect.

the best I'm aware of from members here is about 220RWHP. this was a car that had been custom modified more ways than I care to imagine. and was also done with some very good tuning, very good.

The race teams that use Rennies have put down a fair bit more power, but that is at the cost of very good tuning, and a VERY expensive stand alone engine management

depending on the condition of your motor, you might make 200

If I choose to go FI those upgrades will be needed anyway.

you could pay for a motor, tranny, and basics of a solid turbo kit with the money you'll have to spend on engine managment if you want to make more than 220 on a stock internal Renny. from what we know of previous N/A builds - you'll spend as much or damn near it trying to make 220 as you would for a solid FI setup, not a flashy blingy fancy one, but solid

PhillipM 04-29-2010 03:24 PM

Depends what you call expensive, some people on here spend more on a shiny exhaust than we did on a standalone...

But then, I'm still not going to even try for any more N/A, waste of money, may as well just bolt on a supercharger and sort it out.

true, but i dont know any shiny exhaust getting into 5 figure cost. afaik the only publicly well known engine management that will get into his ideal territory is gonna cost him that. plus all the custom work to the rest of the car, plus finding someone who is skilled enough to tune it, etc etc

the message i want delivered is this: I have no concern or care what anyone chooses to do as far as mods, but I do think it would be good to have all the info before hand. choose to do whatever you want then. Now, the hard truth is - you can put on 15-20whp pretty easy with bolt-ons/tuning. more than that it gets very expensive. in fact you can make another 150WHP cheaper than you could make that next 20whp. I dont discourage ideals and dreaming, but if you choose to play N/A be aware that if you want to make any more significant power, you're going to spend a LOT of money, and if you want to make more than 240-260 you're going to have to step into unknown territory

PhillipM 04-29-2010 03:38 PM

Pretty much, I can't see even the bridgeported cars getting much more than another 20bhp even if they get them working tbh.

Hickoryhouse 04-29-2010 04:39 PM

just for reference, about what is the stock hp at the wheels?

paulmasoner 04-29-2010 04:42 PM

for a 6 port manual tranny 170-180. truth is there are fairly large ranges reported, most likely due to widely varying seal tolerances and a couple other minor things

Atilla 04-29-2010 04:45 PM

Team - CRH - Jedi

search them

otakurx 04-30-2010 09:48 AM

Now I say you can get 300hp to the ground in a rennie, but I think it would take a lot of tunning and modding to the engine. I've seen 12A's with some high numbers and other 13B's with even higher and having it all motor but they also have some radical mods and aren't really street drivable anymore, but they sound amazing. Nothing like the brap of a P-Port intake. Tho that takes more time and money and such then most would be willing to put in to a NA when you could get more out of an FI for the same amount.

just my thoughts.

PhillipM 04-30-2010 10:30 AM

P-Port intake would take a big chunk of work as you'd need to sort out a P-Port exhaust too to get enough air back out.

alnielsen 04-30-2010 10:34 AM

Mazdatrix built a p-port exhaust renesis engine. I don't remember reading about any HP numbers.

shadycrew31 06-07-2010 06:24 AM

Yea... CRH has always made more power than Jedi I was there for those pulls.

I hope, I can join the ranks of 210+ club. Tight tolerances and a street port, soon to be a tuned. Oh and I have every bolt on goody one can imagine!

Hopefully CRH, Jedi, and myself will have a NA showdown next year.

Until then let me leave you with some info. Most people with bolt ons and a tune can make around 190-200. I had pulleys, hks exhaust, and K&N intake, no tune. I made 183 whp.

pdxhak 06-07-2010 12:21 PM

GeorgeH had around 220whp dyno as well. I can not find his thread so I think he deleted it.

Unfortunately our motors NA numbers are all over the board. Some people with no mods will pull 190+ and others with lots of mods pull 175+.

pdxhak 06-07-2010 12:47 PM

Is that an offer to rebuild my motor :D:

Curious what numbers you are seeing on a consistent basis post rebuild?
