Highest mileage for an '09 R3?

I was just browsing through a semi-local search on autotrader and I found this Black '09 Rx-8 R3 with almost 90,000 miles at a Kia Dealership. I believe this is the highest mileage for not only an R3 but an S2 as well. They're selling it for dirt cheap too. :dunno:

I wouldn't buy it. And considering the miles it has, the prices is quite subjective here.

Way too many miles way too soon. How did somebody manage to put that many miles in two years?!?!

pistonhater 12-27-2011 12:07 PM

BTW,

do you have an RX-8 again?

I remember all the drama in your posts about the Evo - or whatever car you bought after the 8:scratchhe

Good grief, the engine core warranty on that car will end before the 36month bumper-to-bumper warranty!

According to the carfax, the original owner owned it for only 18 miles. The second owner drove over 26,000 miles a year since he purchased it in 08. I wouldn't buy it either. I'm just curious on the engine's compression as it's an S2 with more miles than my '04.

You might be confusing me with someone else. I'd never sell the 8 for the Evo.
I still have my 8 though. :)

Only one owner for that car, the "first" was the dealership that bought it. They sold it within 3 days to the true first owner.

I like how it took the latest dealership 15 days to service that car(according to carfax anyway) after they were already selling it lol.

I think I remember him unfortunately. He's that troll that randomly decides to post out of no where to praise his mighty econobox.

That's a ton of miles on an '09. How does someone even drive that much? Live in their car?

9krpmrx8 12-27-2011 05:30 PM

For a two year period I put almost 70,000 miles (3,000 mile oil changes all highway driving on a Mazda reman) driving about 100 miles to and from work + running around on my RX-8. Now I only drive her about 5 miles a day :) The Series II at least has a better engine so if it was well maintained it might be a good deal if the price is right.

CelticFan 12-27-2011 10:24 PM

My 09 R3 only has 28K on it.

It's an 09 with 90,000 miles, and if you round it out, it will come out to 45,000 miles per year for 2 years only...damn!

MS Addict 12-28-2011 04:11 AM

$12,750? There's gotta be something wrong with her.. A black on black 2009 R3, around a third of the price new..

If it were closer by, I'd check it out. Should've moved to Florida when I was with my ex.. Ha.

RX8pwnage 12-28-2011 04:58 AM

90k lol...my 09 has 21k

russ 12-28-2011 11:50 AM

2552 miles / month average
missing an engine cover

scorcherjf 12-28-2011 11:54 AM

Yeah this is correct. It was originally sold in Nov 2008 and then most recently offered for sale in November 2011, so that would be 3 years being on the road.

I thought mine was high with 49k miles. =)

I would buy it for $9k

Probably because its spent half its life at a shop, you have a billion things done to it!

Mine just went over 36k. :(

wow, that was a lot of driving!! I'm sure it feels better now to only drive 5 miles a day:mdrmed: After all, seems like that Mazda reman didn't do too bad. Is that the one you sent to Pineapple racing?

What's wrong with her? Lotsa miles on a 2 y/o car!!! If the car was 4-5 years old that would be a different story. And even so!

Engine core warranty will be gone soon. Bumper to bumper warranty is gone already. I don't think the price of the car is that great after all:suspect:

jasonrxeight 12-29-2011 10:56 AM

wow, 90k. good thing is no one has gotten a replacement engine yet.
mine just ticked over 21k.
she needs some new plugs, I can hear MIAC sound at lower rpm.

s.sidhu23 12-29-2011 11:28 AM

mine just hit 87k kms- 54k miles
'05

Bladecutter 12-29-2011 12:30 PM

It would be interesting to take that car, and have a compression test done on it to see how it held up with 90k miles on its engine.

Also interesting would be to take the VIN, call up Mazda, and find out if the engine was ever replaced.

That would give us S2 owners some piece of mind if that engine is still showing great compression after that many miles.

BC.

That's great! 05's were S1 though not S2.

I'll give them a call and see if they'll get a compression test.
My guess is it's mostly highway miles so it might not really show the true reliability of the S2 as highway miles are good for any rotary. I believe there's an S1 with 200k miles original engine.

235K as of now, to be exact.

It's 3 years and 1 month old, not 2 years (Nov 08 to Dec 11) That's just shy of 30,000 miles a year. I was at a rate of 36,000 a year in the early 2000s (not with an 8)

Inaccurate. Series 2 engines have been replaced.

It's a single car with (presumably) nearly all highway miles. Is that really going to give you an accurate data point?

If so, I recommend that you rate Toyota Corolla reliability on my 2002 Corolla I used to have. It blew it's engine at 62,000 miles. My 2005 8 is still doing fine at 93,500.

How is that for a single data point?
