high pitched noise in every gear

recently i have noticed a high pitched noise in every gear. is that normal?

at first i thought it was just my greddy exhaust but i remembered the sound before when i had the OEM exhaust. when i tried to pinpoint the noise, it seems like it is coming from the front of the car. i thought it was normal at first, but now it is somewhat getting annoying.
in 6th gear, i usually only hear it when i am around 2k rpm, any lower or higher it goes away. it is like that in every gear, i just dont remember what rpm it happens at because i usually dont cruise in any of them besides 6th.

Can you go to an RX8 get-together in LA? I think that would be the easiest way to figure this thing out.

I would go to an rx8 meet but last I heard the pasedena meet fell apart into somehing else, at least that's what another member said. Are there any meets in so cal this week? I'm not even sure I can attend them if my car is in the shop (someone backed up into me).
But back to the problem, I'm not sure when this started happening, but I'm sure I didn't happen when I bought it (2nd owner), but this high pitch sound started happening way before any mods were added to he car.

Apparently next week there's going to be a dyno meet in SoCal. I believe Charles R. Hill, the owner of BHR, is going to be there. Maybe you could go with your car and bring a 6-pack for the helpers.

ok, where would i have that checked? or can i do it my self? [no experience]
i dont think the fluids have been touched at all. i am at 52,100 miles.

Buy Redline for the transmission and Redline or Royal Purple for the limited slip differential. You can do it yourself. Do a search on transmission oil DIY. Several good threads will take you step by step.

yup, just looked it up, looks pretty simple and straight forward.

but one question, is this one of those problems that i can hold off for a bit or does it need to be fixed immediately because it can cause damage?

ArXate 03-23-2010 08:50 AM

PM Charles R. Hill about that.
