Hey Hey

Hey Guys,

I just bought a 2004 Touring 8, and boy am I glad I did. Its a manual and has 23K miles. I picked her up from a private seller that owned the car for 1 and half years (only owner). I think I got a heck of a deal, paid $17,250.

The car orginally came with cloth seats but he got them switched out to black leather and even got wired up for heat. The switches are on the side of both the seats instead of in the middle of the arm console.

I was told by the owner that before turning the car off I should take it to 7K to rid of excess gas in the engine so it doest flood, can anyone verify this? First mods are probably going to be Beltronics RX65 radar and Blinder X-treme laser jammer. Then eventually down the road a high end exhaust...Greddy, Borla.

BTW this was my first stick EVER, I had never driven one before. It was fairly easy to learn on it. I'm still a bit rough in 1st but I'm glad I went with a stick instead of an auto. Anyways looking forward to learning and modding. :)

Good deal....

....and a great price!

Congratulations!

7k is a little high, try 3.5k, then key off, and that's lots of spin left to clear the gas.

Congrats on your purchase. Looking good and Welcome! You'll have a blast with your 8 and the flooding thing is only if you move your car for short distances when the engine' s cold. Manual says to rev @ 3K for 10 secs, but if you prefer just wing it to 8k and enjoy the music

Very nice, both car and price. Cool choices for your first mods, but as far as exhaust..I'd go with Racing Beat. Just remember to shop around, and search up vids on YouTube. You can find just about any exhaust on vid. Also, your first friend made is the Search button. Use it :D:

Welcome! Let the addiction begin. :wiggle:

Nice, congrats on the buy, and lucky you got it for that cheap. the leather looks really nice in it like it was barely used.

Looks like a clean and well kept 8. Congrats and thanks for the pics.

There is debate whether the 8 needs the RPM drop when shutting off when already warm. I'm one to do it most of the time. I usually blip the throttle above 3K but below 4K and shut the ignition off.

Whatever you do, don't turn off the car cold. Let it idle or short drive at the minimum to op temp.

You can search on the subject.

Congrats and welcome.
Take it to the dealer to see if it has the latest ECU flash, recalls done etc.
Have fun with the mods

Just to be clear, you don't have to rev it before turning it off—unless, as Mazda points out, you started the car when it was cold and then turned it off right away, without letting it warm up. I've never revved before shutdown and I've never flooded.

(But… others have. So if revving before shutdown makes you feel that you've taken every possible precaution to avoid flooding, go ahead and do it. I just don't think it's really necessary, and it wastes a little fuel. With the upgraded battery and starter, flooding isn't really something you have to worry about.)

Print some TSBs out, @ http://www.finishlineperformance.com

Bring it to dealership, have them do all TSBs and recalls.(if it has not been done)

then be happy :)

Kudos for stepping up to the plate and learning to drive stick! The car will give you a bunch of fun years, but the ability to drive stick is a present you give yourself for the rest of your life.

Thanks, here is a pic of the custom switch for the heated seats. Looks factory dont it, both seats have them.

congrats on the new car!

I do like how they put the switch into the seats... leaves so many more modding options for the center console... recessed ipod holder anyone?

reidswitch 04-25-2007 12:29 AM

congrats, the car looks great...

And you won't be inadvertently roasting your ass when shifting through the gears!

It looks like there is a high/low setting on your heated seats?

I wish the stock heated seats came that way.
