Help! They cut my Splash Guard Out! and I can't breath!

Over spring break I had Neon under-body lights installed on my 8. When they lifted the car up the mechanic said that he would have to remove the front splash gaurd so the light would shine down, I told him to leave the splash guard and mount the tube any way at least it would shine through the grill. When I came back three hours later the splash guard was gone. I told the manager I wanted it put back on and he brought it around to the garage and the mechanic said it couldn't go back on because he had to cut it out because of the ribits. Then he continued to argue with me when I said I told him not to cut it out, obviously no tip for this guy. They convinced me that it was fine with out it. I'm worried about water getting to the engine and other componets, that's why it was there. The way it appears to have been designed the front plastic part on the bottom of the front bumper and the splash guard kind of caught wind and funneled air to the radiator which is at a angle to the splash guard. Yesterday after driving for four hours straight when I finally parked, my blower, to cool the engine, ran for about 15-20 minutes. I'm worried that the radiator is not getting enough air now that there is a big whole in the plastic underlining in front of it, and the air is just dropping out of the whole. I still have the splash gaurd and can bolt it back in but they said it would just flap in the wind, and hopefully my veilside body-kit will be here later this week and I will put it on. What do you guys think I should do, and could leaving it off cause any problems or am I just paranoid. Thanks.

And he cut the part off AFTER you told him not to??? I would seriously think of burning that place down!!!

Okay, seriously, you should contact your better business bureau or another organization in your area and complain to them about the shop.

Yea, you got screwed. You'd better get that fool to replace it. I can see it now...engine overheats, take it to dealership for fixes. Deny your warranty claim! It could be a nightmare.

The point is that his car was damaged and they did exactly what he told them not to. He did not "deserve" to have his car damaged.

You are right, but unfortunately this place seems to have a lot to do with Bashing people who do not walk in step with the ideals of a few.

I'm a little confused. You said it was your splash-guard, which I understand to be an accessory installed aft of each wheel. Yet, your description sounds like it is something else. Can you maybe post a picture?

are you talking about the Mud Flaps behind each wheel ? or something else ?

It's a big square piece dead in the senter almost directly under the engine about 3ft by 3ft maybe a little more. I'll try to get some pics. The big problem with having the mput it back on is they are four hours away from me, I was on vacation. I also don't care what people think about what I do, so the lights look kick ass to me and that's what makes me happy Shooter!

That is not good- have those clowns buy you a new one. You're just asking for your radiator or AC lines to get punctured by road debris, not to mention the potential for cooling issues.

Yowza. yea, you need to have that fixed ASAP. Road debris is gonna rape that thing.

Ok, I got underbody neon LEDS installed, and they mentioned to me that it wont shine down through it, and I said it was fine, so what they did instead was they place 2 LED sticks in the front, one on the upper side of vent behind the rotary accent, and one shining out of the area on a horizontal level, giving the same overall effect as having a hole would, light spilling out, just not under the engine itself, so, thay can do it without cutting up your ride, so stick it to them, make them fix it, or make them pay for repairing it and loss of use, then get it done elsewhere where they respect thier customers... they shouldnt do something to your car which you didnt want in the first place.

Frankly I was thinking the same thing too. However, I still feel bad for Horse having his car damaged. I just wish more people would keep their bashing comments to themselves.

Horse, definitely have the shop replace the part. That does NOT look good for your car leaving the bottom exposed like that.

Go get back on quick. I don't know how it works on the 8, but the Rx-7 and this plastic "skid guard" looking thing directly beneath the radiator. It was to direct the flow of air towards and out through the radiator. People that took it off on the rx-7 noticed huge differences in temperature readings.

Lose the neons and put that plastic piece back in.

Ditto - that plastic piece is essential, even critical, for directing air through the radiator - I'd be seriously concerned about overheating without it. Bye bye warranty if you have problems running like that!

yeah there just four hours away from me and I can't go back there soon, I can get my loacl dealer to put it back on or do it myself should I order a whole new plastic piece from my dealer, I still have the original square he cut out.

I suggest you try getting the neon installer/destroyer to agree in writing to reimburse you for the price of a new entire underpanel from the dealer. Threaten small claims court.

A new radiator will be a whole lot more pricey if you don't get that fixed.

You paid for those splash guards. You should make them pay for new splash guards, installation and a gift for not following your instructions. BTW, don't neon lights put your warranty on the gray?

Only if the dealer can prove that the neon lights does something negative to the car. They have to prove that it somehow damages the car, and it's your fault. Such as the case for new Exhaust, Intake, clear corners..etc etc modifications.

Get it put back together with the OEM panel. Not only is the radiator highly exposed and the cooling flow disrupted, the high speed aerodynamics are hosed. The bottom of the 8 is designed to generate downforce. You've got nothing but turbulence up front now.
