Help with Selling Price
 

Hi All,

I am thinking of selling my 2008 40th Anniversary Edition RX8 with just over 40,000 miles. Its a great car but I ran out of space in my garage - Mazad Miata, Audi A4, Bentley GT and two motorcycles. I have looked at the prices in KBB and NADA but looking to see what you guys would recommend. Since I think you would be more representative of people in the know.

It depends on the condition of the car too...ie, exterior, interior, engine compression, etc...

Your idea is outstanding the issue is one thing that not enough persons are speaking intelligently about. I am very completely satisfied that.

I also own a 40th AE. If you are wondering whether or not the car might have a higher value (compared to other RX8s) because it is a 40th AE, the answer certainly no.

Having said that, I would start with whatever prices ranges you got from KBB and NADA and go from there based on the condition of the car. I would guess the car might have better chances of being sold faster than other RX8s from that year (2008) because the interior is very rare, which is something you can use to market the car.

You can also use the foam filled cross-member (whatever that does, nobody really knows), factory Bilstein shocks and R3 style wheels (also standard on all 2009-2011 RX8s, although the ones in the 40th AE are a different color), and Bose sound system (not spectacular but the Bose brand seems to attract people) to bump your sale. These things were unique to the 40th AE trim.

Aluminum driveshaft? You mean carbon fiber? That is not special for an rx8. Maybe the 4 port autos didn't have it. I dunno

All auto 8's have steal, all manual 8's have carbon fiber.

Mazdatrix makes an aluminum that you can purchase (Its better than both, and a fraction of the coast of replacing the carbon fiber one)

IMO the CF drive shaft is just a bragging factor, Mazda should have use aluminum from the get go, less weight, less parasitic drag, significantly cheaper.

O well, I can still brag that I have one :lol:

IMO kbb and other pricing sites have had thier values inaccurately decreased due to ignorant owners destroying 8s because they don't take proper care of them. I have a 2004 6 speed gt, original everything with just over 117k miles in near mint condition. Blue book is about 5000. I would put it closer to 7-8k.

Yeah, 5K is actually pretty dead on, you can get an 04 with under 50K for 8 grand. :lol:

Sentimental value besides blinding you of actuality unfortunately adds no real value to your car!

I have only had the car for a few weeks, no sentimental value yet. I like to use cargurus.com because they base values on actual sales prices. The car is worth whatever people are willing to pay for it, and according to previous sales, kbb and such are giving much lower values. So if kbb says 5k, but comparable cars have been selling for 7-8 recently in my area, ill go with 7-8.

7-8k for an 04' with 117k? :lol: yeah. I have seen clean 2007's sell for not much more than that. There is a 2007 Stormy Blue GT 6 port/6 speed Auto for sale at my dealer right now with 60k on it for $12,000.00 asking price. I am certain they would take a grand or more less without much argument.

You can buy clean sub 100,000 mile RX-8 GT's here all day long in the 6-7k range and any Series I RX-8 over 100k is $5,000.00 and under. And quite often some of them have had recent re-manufactured engines installed. The prices are shit because an engine replacement cost is more than half of the value of the car, even for the 07 and 08's.

I take book value with a grain of salt. The private party book value on my Cobalt SS Turbo is a good bit less than you can find one for, but they only built a few thousand car.
