Help on part choices?Georgia 8s out ther?!

I just recently got my 8 back from months in the shop and am getting nothing but parts for Christmas, any suggestions on what would b the best parts to put in a 2004 8 with a recently replaced engine, a renesis

Kaleb M 11-03-2011 12:18 PM

As well I was lookin for someone in the middle Georgia area that may be able to help install parts and maybe teach me how to work on the rotory engines

RX8Soldier 11-03-2011 12:25 PM

what are your goals for the car? (dd, track, etc)

Kaleb M 11-03-2011 12:47 PM

Right now I'm just street racing and going to the drag strip whenever there's local events. But I want to begin drifting eventually. Parts I'm getting for Christmas I want to boost horsepower and torque, but strengthen engine in long run to eventually put on some nos

RX8inSTL 11-03-2011 12:54 PM

Shouldnt be talking about street racing on this forum, read the rules. Im sure this will be locked soon.

Kaleb M 11-03-2011 12:55 PM

It's legal, on private land

Kaleb M 11-03-2011 12:56 PM

I just call it street racing cuz it's normal roads and we have multi car races

RX8inSTL 11-03-2011 01:03 PM

Right.

RX8Soldier 11-03-2011 01:07 PM

So, if the police showed up, none of you would be fined?

Read up on modification forum. There is plenty of info. Good luck getting power/torque without forced induction

Kaleb M 11-03-2011 01:08 PM

Yeah? Grandparents own a crap load of land has and has a bunch of useless roads that my grandfather let's us race when the Gmom ain't their lol. It really is a dream, everyone needs a racing sanctuary when they teenagers, would save a lot of lives

Kaleb M 11-03-2011 01:09 PM

No we wouldn't cops wouldnt waste their time to come all way out their in first place but my papa tlkd to one his cop buddies before he ever let us

monchie 11-03-2011 10:13 PM

Did i just read street racing?!

In before the lock, good bye.

Kaleb M 11-03-2011 11:21 PM

Really? These forums are worse then jail bout little general rules that could apply to so many things, but guess it's for the best, for the 8 community

olddragger 11-04-2011 08:47 AM

dude this happens in Ga with folks that have a lot of land with paved roads on it.
Its no worse that private rental of a race track. Grow up. The guy is not doing anything wrong.
It could be smarter with the proper safety equipment present etc--but its not illegal.
What part of Ga are you located in? We have to get you on a road track--like road atlanta or roebling road. The 8 is NOT a drag car.
PM me if you want--I am in Macon
The Ga rx8 club is here too--lots of good folks and we have a BIG track event at Road Atlanta the 1st w/e of Dec with NASA SE---sign up!

Sorry OD, I have to disagree.
The OP IS doing something wrong by talking about it on our forum, which forbids street race talk. Keep it in the back yard- that's all we are saying.
Either way, I'm out of here. Good luck with your new ride OP. Learn as much as you can. With someone like OD in your neck of the woods, you'll learn much ;)

slvrstreak 11-04-2011 12:04 PM

Don't try and drag the 8
And as far as racing try and keep it on the track with educated drivers that can teach you more about car control
The private "street race" idea is going to be trouble without the proper safety precautions and experience
Like OD said come up to a track event :)

zoom44 11-04-2011 12:25 PM

well he's not talking about street racing. he's talking about private racing on " the back 40" so to speak. just like kids with dirt bikes, quads, snowmobiles do all over "rural" America. maybe its hard for "City Kids" to undersand

I understand. I did the same thing with dirt bikes and modded go-carts. I'm just saying without the proper experience and safety it's more of a risk.
This isnt a dirt bike or quad lol

RX8Soldier 11-04-2011 12:28 PM

I used to race my dirt bike in the "back 9" also (as well as my FC's). I know what he's talking about.
It's just not a sanctioned course, so I figured it was wrong to discuss :dunno:

alnielsen 11-04-2011 12:31 PM

Ha Ha, when I was a teen, we had a 1/2 mi oval snowmobile race track in the south 20. :)

Kaleb M 11-04-2011 03:06 PM

Thank for the back up y'all. New guys need it some time. But got bad news today :/ (if it ends up going through), my papa may start renting land off for hunting to some of his buddies. So backroad whipping might get limited to certain months or cut out all together :( Looks as though tracks bout to become my sanctuary

olddragger 11-04-2011 05:11 PM

tracks are more fun:)

Yeah, a bike or quad crash with no airbags to soften the blow and tress to smack into face first is so much safer than a car.

I grew up in the middle of no where in Illinois. I'm well aware of what can happen in this stuff, and I rather see it in a car. I've know more people to get very badly hurt or killed on bikes and quads then in cars and trucks.

would you rather crash your $10K-$30K car going 140MPH or a $1500 quad going 50MPH

Not a matter of cost. That's what insurance is for. But I know two people that have died on a quad going about 50ish. One in a corn field. He hit a wash out hidden under the fresh picked corn stalks and was launched. Landing broke his neck. The other was trail riding, not sure how exactly but on what was a logging road at one time he lost it. Possible mechanical failure, no one really knows. But in any case, he hit a tree and died. Both had helmets and the latter also had upper body pads on.

In a car you can die very easy at 140mph especially if you hit something solid. I'm not doubting that. But you are not going to hit those speeds on some road on a farm. At least it's not very likely. You have some level of protect well above and beyond what you get on any bike or quad. The accident death rates speak for them selves. Just ask any one that works in an ER.
