help me decide

Well i drove an rx8 about 2 months ago and absolutely loved it. Its major change from a 91 VW corrado G60 :hahano: I have read this board here and used the search function for a month or better researching but I want some fresh answers. I am seriously thinking of buying an RX8 brand new but some of these post scare me about the peoblems. I drive 80 miles a day round trip to work 80% highway and it seems to me that the majority of you guys that get bad gas milage are driving stop and go traffic??? Seems like 24MPG seems average on the highway. It also seems that engine problems and flooding issues seem to be in earlier model cars 2003's and 4's. Do you still need to let the engine warm up before shutting it down? I am not worried about snow as I have a 4 wheel drive truck for that. So what do you guys think is it reliable enough for me? Do my observations seem correct here? Convince me

Mugatu 07-18-2006 06:45 PM

you want fresh answers? they're the same as the old ones. if you did the research, there's nothing more to say. you shouldn't need 'convincing'.

justb21888 07-18-2006 07:01 PM

yeah thats the kind of response i thought i'd get. nevermind then

NoTears316 07-18-2006 07:03 PM

Yes

saturn 07-18-2006 07:13 PM

You'll be fine. Rev the engine for 10 seconds before shutting down cold, don't look at your gas expenses, and don't ever drive in the snow.

TRZ750 07-18-2006 07:16 PM

Forget reving the engine. Just turn the key off. I have 25,000 miles on my 8 and have not had starting issues since the reflash 2 years ago.

Mugatu, you have hurt his feelings, you should appologize promptly.

justb21888 07-18-2006 07:30 PM

man this is crazy compared to the VW crowd. Anybody want a used corrado?

I also have an 80-mile round trip commute that is mostly Hwy And 21 Mpg is about the best you will get. This car doesn’t take long to warm up so cold shutdown’s can be avoided by basic owner awareness. Fresh answers will be hard to get on a car that has not changed much in three years but here is some old info that I seem to post over and over again
My RX-8 was built 5/2003
No Floods
20 Mpg
69,000 miles
No major problems
Lots of fun

Easy_E1 07-18-2006 09:50 PM

Just buy it ,,you will love it!

no

limepro 07-19-2006 01:50 AM

i drive about 3/4 miles to work ya ya it takes less to walk since i can just cut through but i love driving my car and unless its below like 50 degrees my engine is warm within 5 minutes. i still rev it to 3k for 10 seconds just to be sure but i havent had a single problem. you will love this car if you decide to go with it and dont worry about mugatu hes like that with everyone

The Interior in leather sold me. It's gorgeous in Brown ;)

http://images.mazdausa.com/MusaWeb/i...8_interior.jpg

Driving the car is all the convincing you need.

Do the math yourself though 400 miles a week 20-26 gallons of gas $60-78.

Say you get a 30 mpg whatever. 14 gallons of gas $42.

$18 a week difference $80 a month $930 a year

If you think of it daily. $3.6 a day. Skip the Starbucks you won't need it anymore :)

Is the car worth $80 more a month car payment then the Corrado?

HELL FREAKING YES!

If the $80 a month bugs you buy a $4000 less rx8 and it's a wash. I personally think leather, sunroof, sound system are worth the $80 a month.

:ylsuper:

thanks so far guys. I apprecite it. I was really tossing it around today. Local dealership has a shanka its awesome. They have had it a while so i might go try and deal with them. Any suggestions?

dmc27 07-19-2006 04:28 PM

It's shinka. My suggestion: grow some thicker skin, or you will hate this forum.

And remember - people rarely post the "Boy, everything is swell w/my 8. No problems here" threads. In fact when those do appear, the members seem to get one hell of a laugh. So don't let the problems scare you off.

Mugatu - are any of your 1800+ posts positive? :mdrmed:
