Again, thanks for the good words!

A couple of updates this morning:
1 - I slept like a baby last night (re: ss curse) ;)
2 - I haven't yet been able to drive since the weather has been real crappy the last few days, so i figured I should start the car every few days. Engine wouldn't crank last night, goes click, click, click... A quick search pointed to a dead battery. I pop the hood, and it turns out one of the battery terminal connections was so loose I could remove the wire without tools. I know the dealership I bought the car from has a habit of disconnecting the battery for cars in the showroom so kids won't play around/start the cars. I figure they just forgot to tighten it properly, and that the car was running on battery only without charging since then. Re-tightened it, and will be getting jumper cables today so I can give her a boost with my Liberty. Then I'll see if it charges up. If not, looks like I will be getting a new battery from the dealer!

RX-8 Bra?

I was buffing my 8 and and found minor front hood/bumper chips from rock/road debrie/bug juice etc.... So my question should I get a "bra" for it? Can the chips be buffed out with something? I find myself already obessed with keeping it sharp. My brother in laws Mustang had a bra and it damaged the paint. I don't really like the bra look. Any suggestions?:D:

Yep. Bras can be purchased for the RX-8.

Whether in the black or clear varities.

Since you don't like the look of the Black bra (Can't blame you):

Go with a clear bra. Forum link: https://www.rx8club.com/nw-rx-8-forum-33/clear-bra-rx-8-a-9134/

Stone chips won't buff out more than likely. I would go clear bra vs. a strap on bra. I've seen them scuff and/or ruin paint before.

If you go clear bra, I'd recommend getting the front re-sprayed first so it's nice a shiny and new. No since spending the money to seal in rock chips.

Where are you in Ohio? If you in the Cincy area, I know a guy the does clear bras.

You know you can start your own thread for your own questions. No need to hijack someone else's when your comments aren't even mildly related.

Another quick update: I connected my battery to a battery charger for a couple of hours, and the car started fine. I let the engine warm up and run for about 20 mins with nothing on (fan, radio, etc.), hopefully this will ensure I have a bit of juice in the battery for next time I start and go for a drive. :fingersx:

RX-ed 01-22-2011 09:11 AM

I may be talking to myself here... but I thought I would give one more update in case anyone is watching :p:

My new car wouldn't start again the folowing day - battery dead once more. I called the dealership and they came to install a new battery (AC Delco Professional). It looks like my OEM Panasonic was on its last legs and the brutal cold finished it off. I will be booking an appt. next week so they can check the alternator, etc. just to ensure the problem is addressed for good.

I finally went for my first real drive last night: what a blast!!

I am definitely a happy new owner now!

Congrats on the buy, i live in ottawa also and bought mine end of summer, unfortunately i am forced to drive it during winter but all seems good so far:) I just replaced my battery last week actually last month i didnt drive it for a couple of days and it wouldnt start cause battery died and it happened again after a couple of days of not driving it so i bought a battery at canadian tire and so far so good, the dsc is really helpfull with fresh snowfall but i also like the fact that u can just press the button to take it off and have a bit of fun, only negative side of winter so far is the salt and the gas mileage drop, are you storing it for winter RX-ed?

04Green 01-25-2011 03:31 PM

Rx-ed
If you have autozone or some other large chain of parts stores close by, they will usually check the alternator and battery for you. Autozone down here just did it for me. It is usually free.

Nice to meet another "local" through this board - congrats to you too on your purchase, sounds like you are finding ways to enjoy the winter with your 8! Regarding your question: I am sort of storing it I guess, I have it sitting in the carport and do not plan on using it until spring, except maybe the occasional time when it's not too cold and the roads are dry. I try to start it every few days and move it around a bit once the engine is warm - which may be overkill but I just don't want all the oil to sit in the bottom of the pan or the brakes to rust solid, etc. Plus I have to admit that it's pretty hard to see it right there in my face and not being able to enjoy it... like you are ;)

Thanks for the tip Green - I will definitely keep that in mind for the future. Right now the dealership I bought the car from offered to do it for free in addition to installing the new battery since they are giving me a bumper-to-bumper 3 months warranty on the RX-8. All I have to do is book a service appointment. I have to say I am quite impressed with them so far: they threw in a brand new set of Toyo Proxes 4 without me even asking, at no charge (mind you the tires were done and I would have brought it up).

...and they are literally located 350 meters from my front door, which is another huge plus!

Well - I've now been enjoying my 8 for almost 3 months now; it's been a blast! With the nicer weather coming, things are getting better and better.

Done so far (thanks to the awesome info and help from this site):
Cleaned MAF;
Added Rotary accents front & back;
Added aluminum strakes;
Replaced the plugs;
Replaced the wires;
Replaced the coils (btw - the "intermotor" coils are exactly the same part as OEMs!);
Changed the oil & filter.

Still to come:
Need to install "orifice" to get rid of annoying sound at 7000+ revs;
Spray rocker guard protectant under fender lips in wheel wells (carefully!);
Paint calipers (red, methinks);
Tint windows;
Also thinking of adding mud guards + air dam... but not sure.

Here are a few pics taken today (still on my Blackberry, so not that great).

I don't like bras. I like panties instead :lol:

RX-ed 04-11-2011 11:53 AM

Edited: Never mind - should have searched first!!

Since I came so very close to asking a stupid noob question, I thought I would use this space for a quick poll:

Q: What is the worst / stupidest noob question that was ever asked on RX8Club?

(...and if this question also turns out to be a stupid noob question that was already asked, then I am completely hopeless and should probably sell my car and leave this place)

:)

Hmm I would say in the short time I've been here prob "so I heard the Rx8 has 2-3 cylinders. So which one is it? 2 or 3?" I'm paraphrase btw. Too lazy to actually look up the right thread.

Wow you're right, that is stupid... everyone knows the answer is that the Renesis has 2 rotating pistons, but no cylinders! ;)

SpeeD_TeaSe 04-13-2011 09:36 AM

Wondering where you got your rotary accents? Are they really all like between 80-150$?

RX-ed 04-13-2011 09:07 PM

I got them from rotary13b1.com. I am happy with the quality, they shipped quickly and the price was $60 + shipping :yesnod:
http://www.rotary13b1.com/c/rx8accents.html

I also bought strakes from them - all the pieces were solid aluminium.
