Been hanging out on the forums here for a couple weeks now trying to make up my mind if i want one of these wonderful cars or not. After test driving one at the local dealer today the answer appears to be a resounding yes. This forum was a great help in my decision. I still have a few questions though....

Has anyone on here made it past 100,000 miles? I'm new to rotaries but compared to rebuilding a cyclinder engine it looks like a cake job, I'm not too worried about longevity but curious to see how long some have made it.

I'll be selling my 2003 WRX to fund the purchase and I have yet to contact my insurance company to get a quote, I don't want them to see my record just yet, have a ticket falling off in about a month. I was wondering how the insurance rates are on these cars and how they might compare to a 2003 WRX.

I can't wait to get my car up for sale and get the ball rolling on this, I love my subaru but it's just boring, it doesn't have an ounce of the passion and finesse that the 8 has. Driving my truck for a few months will make me appreciate the 8 even more when i finally get one.

So with all that said, anyone want to sell me a used 04 or 05 touring with around 30,000 miles? or trade for a 03 WRX? :)

Since the oldest 8 is only 3 years old, there probably wont be many people with 100k miles. I purchased mine August 2003 and have just over 40k miles. The biggest thing to remember is to follow the maintenance schedule.

The insurance on my 8 is similar to the cost of my 4 door Grand Am, so no real problems with that.

The RX8 is a great car. You'll love it, and no you can't have mine! :-) Remeber, Rotaries use oil by design, so check it often and keep it serviced. Mine has over 52K on it now in about 2 years. Still running smooth and loving the twisties.

My insurance considers this car a 1.3 liter 4 door sedan and I pay less then my wife's minivan...so I think your ok there.

There are a few guys here that have hit 100K and I haven't heard of an engine having to be rebuild due to milage related issues. There are a few engine replacements down south due to heat issues, mostly on automatics, but percentage wise it is very few and on older models.

I'd say go for it...you should get a good price on what your looking for...

Had a '74 RX3 rotary I sold at 130K milles. Buyer had dealer check engine and said it still met original compression spec. At 75K, the engine sat outside in the rain with no air cleaner for a couple of moths while the body was repaired. When I put it back in the car, it would not turn over due to internal rust. I forced it to turn with a crowbar and eventually got it started. The Mazda rotary is one tough engine.
