Hello all, picked up an RX
Just picked up a titanium metallic 04 with grey cloth 2 tone seats, sunnroof, no add on spoiler or skirts, and DSC option so Im not sure which trim exactly. 6 speed manual. 54k miles for $13200USD. Opted for a 5 year 50k mile bumper to bumper warranty from a mazda dealer for another $1700.
Love the car I dont miss the 1/2 sec I give up to a 350z at all after driving on washboard roads or blasting thru a few switch backs on some back roads I love. And unless you have one friend in the world this car rocks for rear seat comfort in a true sports car. 2 questions if anyone could plz help: 1) Im running some Lucas fuel inj cleaner thru tomorrow. Does a newer lo mi. rx have the slight vibration at idle? its not like a miss or anything just a subtle hum to let you know its there. It starts fine cold or hot. Ive read a motor mount tsb to check the rubber? ones and relace with urethane. From exp building 2 1G AWD Eclipses urethane will immediately intoduce vibration. Is this correct and can I see motor mounts from above or beneath the car (it was dark when I just tried to check). 2) Is it normal for the shifter to vibrate, its a metal linkage right? Im used to numb rubbery cable shifting in Eclipses. Its not a violent vibration and it goes into all gears with ease and doesnt grind gears at redline shifts, something eclipse and talons are famous for, so I was just wondering. |
first off,
it would be helpful in answering questions i we knew where you are.. you can add that to your user cp.. some quick answers in general. the 04s had some motor mount issues that were covered under the powertrain warranty. also spark plugs wires and coils are also suspect.. and if the ac amplifier is not reset after a battery disconnect it can cause problems with the idle. btw, if you have no dsc. you car is an 04 base. not a bad place to be. beers  |

Any exp w/ a shifter vibration or is this normal? I mean I remember shifters from mustangs and camaros in HS and they vibrate like mad compared to what I feel. I had a HS friend in 1987 with a 1G RX-7 and loved it, just always wanted 4 seats so never got a rotary until the 8 came along.:) |
sounds like you have a sport 04. it now comes with a 5 yr, 60k mile powertrain warranty..
that should cover the plugs, coils, motor mounts if you have a good dealer.. and do you homework.. the ac amp is part of the ac system.. i would read all the way through this thread. follow the links.. https://www.rx8club.com/rx-8-discussion-3/buying-rx-8-a-155709/ beers  |
search around and you will find everything you need and welcome to the addiction

^Thanks guys much appreciated, I can tell the maturity level of RXers is higher than the present DSM crowd. Ive tuned DSMs since 1995 as soon as my warranty ended on my 91 Talon and have had 3 all together and as fast as they were they weren't anywhere close to the RX in handling, refinement, looks or smiles per mile. Im already addicted to the rev:)

Get rid of the warranty. They overcharged you, and you do not need it anyway.
Welcome to the addiction |
^Not sure if I can, Ill check into that but does the "extended" to 100K warranty cover accessories like starter, alternator, ac comp, or interior bits like switches gauges, radio, or sunroof also carry over to the 2nd owner (me)? Or is this 100k just on the powertrain? The warranty I got covers everything except for tires, brake pads, clutch - the usual wear items.
and thank you |
Welcome.
Regarding the shifter vibration... The RX-8's transmission feels very direct, meaning that you feel a lot more feedback of what's going on inside the transmission case through the shifter, compared to, say an FWD car or an AWD with a Haldex-type layout, where there's more distance between shifter and transmission. |
The 100k miles only covers the engine itself...meaning the rotors/eshaft/housings/seals. Nothing else, really.
Welcome to loving the revs! The love lasts forever. |
You can cancel a warranty at any time.
They will pay you back the difference. And if they tell you that you can not cancel it, tell them your lawyer is on his way down. (or HER way down, female lawyers scare anybody) They want you to keep it for at least 3 months, or the dealer does not get paid for selling it. My cost on a 100,000 mile bumper to bumper warranty ranges from $400-$900 depending on the car Beagle - dealership finance guy |

Also taking it to a dealer before the 60k runs out to check onmotor mounts and check eng comp. Feels fine to me though it runs smooth past 100mph, I love this car:)
