anyone ever gotten blackouts for the headlights?? I had them on my mustang and they looked really good and are a cheap easy mod that makes it look at better. Well i bought this film stuff off ebay

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...RK%3AMEWA%3AIT

thinkin it was gonna look really clean when i got them. Well they were crap and dont stick on well at all. I am trying to find a way to make them stick and was wondering if anyone else have these or found a way to get this done. Thanks and let me know

aw man.......... please don't.

namrag69 05-10-2006 06:19 PM

why?? what is wrong with that? It kinda gives it a slick sleek look

valpac 05-10-2006 06:25 PM

it screams, "please pull me over and hassle me."

namrag69 05-10-2006 06:28 PM

So its just the police thing??? I think if it was done right it would look clean as hell. Am i really the only one that thinks blackouts look good?

valpac 05-10-2006 06:41 PM

WTF is it lately with guys wanting to put this cheap Ebay crap on their cars. :spank:

jcataldo 05-10-2006 07:37 PM

ok

Ok i have them, they are applied with water and alcohol. They have held up pretty well through rain. They look ok. I would recomend them more for protection at the track or winter conditions. Just my 2 cents.

namrag69 05-10-2006 07:40 PM

any pics of them?? I think they look good if they are done right. Bottom line its just personal preference and you are the one who has to drive the car

I couldn't disagree more. Tinting your headlights or placing anything in front of them that will block light is illegal. I had a friend who had blackouts on his SUV and it decreased light output significantly. I talked him into removing them and it was a night and day difference. You are also applying tint over the front turn signals with this application, also a safety hazard. I'm all for modding lighting (I have extreme white fogs, LED parking and marker lights) but don't sacrifice your safety or other motorists' to look cool.

mysql101 05-10-2006 08:25 PM

come on, don't be so hard on the guy.

Putting 20% tint on your headlights is cool! That's right, 20% of the light can pass through the tint. That's more than enough to be 80% cool!

Yeah, you're right. Namrag69, you know what else would make your car look more "sleek"? Driving with a blindfold on! No, I'm serious, that would be sooo sick!

presequel 05-10-2006 08:34 PM

i think smoked tailights look cool, not headlights though. not a fan of vinyl either.

"Blacking out" the headlights is stupid and unsafe. It's for looks only. The same material is made in clear, and it's legal. :bootyshak

namrag69 05-10-2006 08:48 PM

its actually not illegal so quit acting like you know the law and are some street lawyer. I think they look badass and dont block so much light that you cant see so those arguements are frivolous.

I posted a link concerning their legality.

S7.8.5 When activated in a steady-burning state, headlamps shall
not have any styling ornament or other feature, such as a translucent
cover or grill, in front of the lens. Headlamp wipers may be used in
front of the lens provided that the headlamp system is designed to
conform with all applicable photometric requirements with the wiper
stopped in any position in front of the lens. When a headlamp system is
installed on a motor vehicle, it shall be aimable with at least one of
the following: An externally applied aiming device, as specified in
S7.8.5.1; an on-vehicle headlamp aiming device installed by the vehicle
or lamp manufacturer, as specified in S7.8.5.2; or by visual/optical
means, as specified in S7.8.5.3.

We also call your attention to S5.1.3 which, in effect, prohibits additional motor vehicle equipment that impairs the effectiveness of lighting equipment required by Standard No. 108. Any styling feature or other part of a motor vehicle that is in front of the lens of a headlamp in use has the potential to impair the light output of the lamp. Even if there is no impairment initially, grills and covers prevent the lamps from being cleaned. Covers themselves are susceptible to accumulations of dirt and moisture on their inner surface. These accumulations on the outer surface of the headlamp lens can cause glare and reduction in roadway illumination

(S5.1.3 would also prohibit, as original equipment, covers over required lighting equipment other than headlamps, for the same reason of impairment). While our laws do not prohibit the sale of lamp covers in the aftermarket, their installation would create a noncompliance with Standard No. 108. In that instance, there would be a violation of 49 U.S.C. 30122(b) if the covers were installed by a manufacturer, dealer, distributor, or motor vehicle repair business.

that doesnt apply to styling and it isnt the same in texas penal codes. Some counties have their own ordinances that prohibit but most say that they have to be a certain percentage of visibility. We just studied that in the police academy. All it is is crap like that over penal codes. We are studing now how high your taillights have to be off the ground

namrag69 05-10-2006 09:05 PM

There is the same debate going on with the underglow body kits. Thats another ordinace thing.

HolyCross05 05-10-2006 09:09 PM

This is beyond rice. Adding mods to your car that will endanger the safety of others. I don't even know what to call that.

namrag69 05-10-2006 09:12 PM

endanger others?? Omg some of those wings i have seen on this board are more inclinded to fly off and hurt someone than someone putting a one way film over their lights for styling. This is crazy. You are acting like im driving around with beer goggles or a spike in the front. Gimme a break

Hell why not just tape a couple flashlights to the front of your car. You'd get the same effect, it would be alot cheaper and hella stylin'.
