Has Anyone Driven an RX-8 or Know Anyone Who Has?

Just wondering! I've never driven a RX-7, so I am axiously awaiting the opportunity to get behind the wheel of the RX-8. It sounds like a great driver's car (ZOOM, ZOOM, ZOOM)!

Only Mazda employees have driven the '8, and if they are on this board, they ain't saying nothin'!

Don't forget Sam Mitani from Road and track.

R/T Article

That article was sweet. Thanks! How much would driving a RX-7 tell me about the RX-8 in your opinion?

Probably not much. The only conclusion you could make is that the RX8 is supposed to drive better than the '7. No one here has driven one, so all is speculation, but...

The RX8 supposedly will handle better than the FD's.
The RX8's weight is still in question.
The RX8 is larger than the RX7.
The RX8's power-to-weight will most likely be different.
The RX8 is NA (as opposed to the FD's and some FC's)

So I don't know how anyone can make a guess based on all those factors.

For our newcomer, FC = 86-92 RX-7, FD = 93-2002 RX-7 (although they weren't imported for all those years).

Edit - maybe in our upcoming FAQ section we should define terms like these that get tossed around a lot here by us old rotorheads?

Oops - I should've been more clear, but lazy habits breed lazy habits...

actually VWJet, getting in an old FC NA (like the base model through the GXL all have the NA engine... just not the TURBO II's, obviously) and the characteristics of the engine should be the same... well, except for the notorious low RPM hesitation, which i'm sure (i REALLY hope) will be worked out and eliminated in the production RX-8... looking at the torque numbers produced by Mazda, it should be fine, but the hesitation in the FC developped over time from some sort of resistor failure or something...
