Anyone that has tested?? ;-D

Cheers, Niclas

????? Why would you want to try this?????

I would think that it would but I'm not gonna be the one to see!

dwill9578 06-01-2005 08:51 AM

cas2themoe 06-01-2005 08:52 AM

Somebody slap this guy

guy321 06-01-2005 08:54 AM

I'll try in in the parking garage later when i leave work!

J.K that's dangerous..

To answer your question, yes it beeps when you're going backwards!

Gambit 06-01-2005 08:55 AM

How about this question????

Can you burn rubber in reverse?

guy321 06-01-2005 08:58 AM

Hmm never tried a clutch drop into reverse.. Ask Abbid, I'm sure he's done it!!!

Actually I dont know it beeps for sure in reverse, but I don't see why not as long as the RPMS are there.

Interesting... I'm pretty sure my beeper doesn't work. I know it is quiet but this past weekend I had the car up to 9000 twice and I was waiting for the beep which never came...

guy321 06-01-2005 09:05 AM

it beeps at 9500

Hm, really? I though it was 9000... :o
Need to push it a bit higher then :)
I had it beep a few times before but wasn't paying attention to the actual RPM.

guy321 06-01-2005 09:10 AM

when the tach says 9500 it is really at 9000

RX-GR8 06-01-2005 09:15 AM

i've gone past 9500 to the point where it shuts off the fuel is that bad?

guy321 06-01-2005 09:18 AM

Nah, I think charles hill did it a few time with the nitrous on.

Abbid does it CONSTANTLY and even uses 87 octane!

neit_jnf 06-01-2005 10:25 AM

the beep is rpm based, it will beep going forward, backwards or in neutral

It beeps around 8500 rpm to alert of the fast approaching redline. Hitting fuel cut won't harm anything

RotaryIT 06-01-2005 10:25 AM

I suppose questions like this are to be expected, but let's think about this realistically.

Anythime that there are moving parts, you will see more wear with prolonged use. If you redline constantly, then the engine will most likely wear more than if you never did. However, there are some assumptions that we make when owning and driving a car like this one, or any car for that matter...if you maintain you engine and transmission as requested by the manufacturer...then running to redline, or to the rev limiter should not be a problem, other than the increased wear. I think that the wear on the rotary or other high revving engines may be minimized by design...as manufacturers would recognize that the engine they design make peak HP at 8500 rpm, and therefore should not explode at 8500 rpm, and should be able to handle prolonged use in this range.

Of course, these are all hopes, dreams, and not often truths....but sometimes it is. My Miata ran strong til I sold it with 165,000 miles and I always shifted between 5500-7000. ALWAYS. Changed oil every 3000 without fail.

Redline in reverse? I won't even consider answering that. =)

Its not the beep itself but what it represents. :)

BlueEyes 06-01-2005 11:24 AM

What I want to know about the beep is this: If you hold the engine at the beeping rpm, can you get a really long beep? maybe multiple beeps? maybe you could make a beep song?

The beep is amazing.. I've never been in another car that gives you that beeeeep.. and when you are driving the car hard I don't have time to look down at the tach to see the rpm, so the beep does help!

Rotten that is a hilarious pic for your avatar :) heh

Ouch! Thanks, I needed that!

:)

The background to the silly question is this: I my office I have a co-worker with a really nice Subaru STI. At lest the Euro spec STI has an adjustable setting for the BEEP between 4000 and 7000m, and each time the BEEP has come up in a car related discussion he asks me if it is adjustable on the Rx-8 (to get the chance to say that it is adjustable on the STI). Likewise this morning when I mentioned the BEEP, so I countered with the question if it BEEPed in reverse as well... :)

...and yes, it is not the BEEP itself, but what it represents - well spoken! I have just about broken her in and now it is ok to start driving!
(To sad that the city of Stockholm just switched to 19 mph on city streets, 31 mph on main roads and 44 mph on motorways close to the city... )

Cheers, Niclas

When maxing out the gears the beep just gets longer and longer. 1st gear is a short beep as you spend very little time at or above 8,500 (where the beep starts), 2nd is longer, and so on...

To make multiple beeps you'd need to get into and out of the beep range quickly.

A beep song would be very obnoxious IMO.
