Gum --> Sticky Situation
Ughh i'm so angry.. JUST BARELY got the car n got all this gum settled in the driver's seat today! n the material is so nice n different in the car too so i don't wanna take any chances. :wallbash:

um... cloth seats?... what? pics?
|
Not sure as though i'm hearing a question...
Could you rephrase the...question? er...if there is one... |

Freeze the gum plain and simple. Get a ziplock bag poor a little bit of water in, drop some ice cubes and drown those suckers in salt. The ice, salt, water combo will drop the temperature from 0 degrees to I think it was about -10 degrees F. Regardless place the ziplock bag on the gum to freeze the gum. It will contract and harden and it should come off relatively easy after that.

If its hard you should be able to use your finger nail.
Still have residue? Leather Dilute rubbing alcohol. Use it. Cloth use full strength. |

There are cleaning products to remove gum such as bye-gum but I don't know what it would do to the cloth. A car detailer might also be able to suggest something.
Now maybe you can tell the story of how gum got on your seat?? |
He was taking his first twisty, and the tight handling made him yell "Oh my blargh"!
With the "blargh" being the sound of his gum dropping out of his mouth neatly between his legs on the driver's seat. Lesson to be learned here. Never let anyone chew gum if it's one of their first times in an 8, including you. |

For gum in body hair - especially kids head hair, try chunky peanut butter - rub it in the oils make it soap and water soluble, the chunks act as a mild abrasive - follow with shampoo, repeat if it is still there. For cloth, can't help you there but after you get it off, you might want to consider seat covers....but watch for airbag ports.

umm u can get compressed air like for cleaning keyboards turn the can upside down itll freeze it and then pull it off works on most things not sure what it will do to fabric seats

how did a lot of gum "settle" in the seat. wtf? |
Translation: I did something dumb and got gum on the seats. What can I do now to remove it without ruining the cloth seat?
|
Something experimental - and you might want to try putting gun on a peice of cloth and testing this first - but if freezing is supposed to work ... At most drugstores you can now get freezing kits - such as CompoundW Freeze Off. About 25 dollars or less, They will have them in odd places like where they have foot supplies - they are for removing warts -
But they give you mix of ether, propane, and isobutane that creates a frozen spot without the worry of oils or water - that should make the gun hard enough to chip away - just don't smoke if you try it! |
is there a gum spot on the seat of all your pants now?
|
So if there is a gum spot on your seat, and a gum spot on the seat of your pants... LEAVE THEM!!! THE COMBO WILL KEEP YOU IN PLACE BETTER IN THE TWISTIES!!!

freeze the gum and you're good to go. get an ice pack, set it over the gum and chip it off later.
