Green valve caps, why?
So I noticed today that the RX8 I just bought has green valve caps. Not sure if this is normal or if it means Nitrogen was used to fill them by a past owner? Any one know? I did a search and found nothing on the subject.

Your tires are (I can't say for sure) filled with Nitrogen.
The green cap is an indicator of a Nitrogen filled tire. So nobody just puts air into it. Only refill with Nitrogen. |
styling? :dunno:
edit: Easy (once again) probably has the answer. But, mine are filled with Nitrogen and don't have green caps? |
Any Nitrogen filled tire, from a tire shop, car dealer, service shop of any kind, should install green caps with a nitrogen replacement or initial fill.
Where did you get yours done RX8 Soldier? |
Actually, my friend owns a Fountain Tire shop. He probably knew that I would rather not have green caps on my new wheels lol.
|
Just as I thought. But don't you want to go green? lol

Can you tell the difference using nitrogen in the tires???
I go auto crossing and have to increase my tire pressure to around 40 psi when I race, it seems impractical to get nitrogen put in them. Any auto crossers use nitrogen? |

Cool thanks Prophet, I will think about getting a tank then. Not sure I want the hassle at the moment I take enough stuff to the track as it is. I am thinking about getting another set of wheels so the car will be a bit full.

I hauled a set of Hoosier A6's rapped around some Einki's in the back of my Cavalier I had at the time. Racked up two STS championships in Great River Region with that car. Was a great underdog. The slicks where for SM class when I jumped to it my last year.
|
Well I am currently in CS but moving to STX I have just fitted a body kit and wing so i cannot race CS anymore. I am not on Hoosiers though so STX is the better choice because of the PAX. I am thinking about Einki RFP1 BLack 17x9 smaller and wider and the Hankook RS3 are only $125 a rim
|
Been a few years, but I thought you could not downsize wheels in the ST classes? I know STX allowed wider tires, up to 245 I think is what it was at the time. Again, been a few years. Last race was in 2008, so rules very well could have changed.
|
Well the old Rx8 comes with 16's so you can have 16, 17, or 18 I think. The rules have changes on width because the Rx8 can go up to 265. Although have have read contradictory info on width, I do know the 17's are legal as I have seen several cars with that setup mainly do to slightly quicker acceleration (smaller & lighter) and the fact that the tires are soooooo much cheaper. Star specs around $170 instead of $210 and Ventus RS-3 $125 rather then $170.

I roll with 78% Nitrogen and I find it's plenty. (ok, old joke, but just had to). ;)
