Great Car in the Rain!

Went to work this sunday morning and it was pouring big time. I can barely make out the lanes in front of me and the ground was like a river. BUT, the car felt so sure footed and secure that I didn't even slow down the car at all. I know I hit many puddles on the freeway, i can hear it as it splashes on the under body of the car. But I felt nothing on the steering wheel. That just totally amazes me. I know if I was driving my 91 MR2 in this condition, I would have to be very slow and I would feel every puddle that I hit and have to fight to keep the car going straight.. But with this car, it was easy to drive straight on a road full of puddles.

I may not like the gas mileage that it gets, but it sure is a great car! I also love the way it corners.. It's just as good if not better than my 91 MR2. Its a wonderful feeling to be able to take a turn at 30mph with 3 people screaming in the car.

Thank god for giving us a brain that could create such a marvel of engineering. :) Well, some brains anyways.....

Its nice to know it works well in the wet, but please dont kill yourself. If conditions are that bad, you should be slowing down because there will be someome in a crap car in front of you. Then all you have to do is worry about everyone behind you with brakes that aren't as effective :(

Cheers

Thank you for taking the words out of my mouth, Dave. John, californians are notoriously bad driving in the rain. Please slow down; that may be me and my family in the next lane. Esp when the rain first starts and the oil/grease floats to the top of the pavement, no amount of car technology will make up for skillful and cautious driving. Also, hydroplaning is a simple physical principle when tire tread simply can't displace standing water fast enough and you're gonna lose traction. But after saying all that, you're right. The '8 rocks and it is very forgiving in difficult circumstances.

i should of mentioned that it was 5:00am and there was no one else on the road.. so i wasn't risking anyone's lives.. :P

i've fishtailed many a times in this car already. makes me a little nervous about this coming winter.. hope the winter isn't as nearly as bad as last year or i'm gonna be missing a lot of work!!

Are you concerned about winter in VA?? Really ??? There are no winter down there, you should experience it up here! :-)

I've become very cautious driving my car in the rain now as I've fishtailed it twice while taking turns at < 15 mph. It probably has something to do with the RX-8 being my first RWD car and my last car being AWD.

This is true, but I'm still very anal about my 8. Also, this is my first RWD car so i'm still learning....

The Bay Area had some of its first rain over the weekend. Left the safety DSC on and had no problems what so ever, car handled well.

This is my first RWD car. The 8 has better wet traction than my '99 Civic Si or '92 Prelude did. I'm very happy with it.
