IS ANYONE ELSE FEELING ME ON THIS.... I DROVE MANY DIFFERENT RX8S AS I WAS TRYING TO WHEEL AND DEAL WITH MULTIPLE LOCAL MAZDA DEALERSHIPS BARGAINING FOR BEST PRICE..... WHEN I DROVE THE STOCK RX8. WITHOUT LEATHER.. THE SEATS JUST FELT HORRIBLY CRAPPY AND CHEAP... LIKE IF I SAT BACK TO HARD THEY WOULD BREAK IN HALF... THE GRAND TOURING PACKAGE MAKES THE INTERIOR LOOK 10000% BETTER... YOU JUST CANT GET THIS CAR AND GET THE CLOTH INTERIOIR.. IR LOOKX HORRIBLE AND DOES THE CAR NO INTERNAL JUSTICE!!!!

WHO AGREES?

mysql101 06-09-2004 08:48 AM

To each their own.

I liked the GT seats not just because of the leather, but the backs of the chairs were hard plastic. The rotary symbol in the headrest doesn't wiggle around either.

Meowloud 06-09-2004 08:48 AM

J/K :D
I have to agree with you though. I prefer cloth, like the way it feels too! But the GT has a very luxe look!! :)

-8- 06-09-2004 09:25 AM

.

Elara 06-09-2004 09:49 AM

There's nothing wrong with not getting the GT package- many people feel the seats grip better with the cloth, anyway. And it's also lighter without the GT package, so better for any type of competition you might be doing.

And yes, please stop yelling.

Razpewton 06-09-2004 09:54 AM

I've had leather in my last 5 cars, but prefer the cloth in the 8. It feels comfortable, warmer in the winter, cooler in the summer and looks great in my opinion.

Senseny 06-09-2004 10:16 AM

I like leather, my wife doesn't so I got the touring package. I actually really like the cloth, the seat inserts remind me of my R-1's faux suede. My rotary symbols don't wiggle at all and I am very happy with my interior. I do feel it has some internal justice!

mysql101 06-09-2004 10:28 AM

All rotary symbols in the cloth seats move when you push them. I've looked in at least a dozen cloth RX-8 seats. You can't in the GT leather version since it's part of the hard plastic in the back.

Rotary Nut 06-09-2004 11:17 AM

Why does it matter if they move around. I would think that your hands would be on the wheel and shifter rather than the back of the seat rest.

Peakster 06-09-2004 11:44 AM

Yes, the black and red leather looks out of this world. However, the cloth grips better and is cooler in hot weather. Plus, I didn't want a sunroof. Who is worrying about wiggling the rotary symbol around? I can honestly say in 9 months of ownership I've never thought once to stick my hand in there.

grogiefrog 06-09-2004 11:44 AM

The cloth does grip better. Depends on how you drive!

But what do you *really* think about the cloth? Don't hold back now... ;)

It was a moot point for me. I can't fit in the power seat, my head gets crammed into the roof.

But I wanted cloth anyways, simply because cloth tends to be grippier. And I've never felt the cloth seats to be fragile.

I do envy the class and durability of leather though.

Still, I think both interiors look great.

yeah, CAPSLOCK really resonates from my monitor. j/k

I disagree. I didn't think the leather in the 8 was that nice. After driving the 8 in hot weather I'm REALLY glad I didn't get leather.

I guess that's why they are called OPTIONS. You get what you like.

BTW, I HATE BLACK CARS! Red is so much BETTER!!! Whose with me on this!! :D :D :D

Maybe if you recline the seat all the way back and you are backwards with your knees in the seat cushion, that rotary symbol may irritate you! Of course, I don't know _why_ anyone would be doggie-style in the seat! :D
You're right... you should keep your hand on your shifter!!

(Black is hotter than red! ;) )

AND if it had propane heaters all around it... that, and wool. Ya, wrapped in wool... while eating jalapenos :D

I almost bought the red. There is NO other red like it! :D

Hehehe, you don't need all that to be hot in your 8 Meow!

Actually, I like black. I just wanted to make fun of HollywoodHall's post. It's so SILLY!!!

I've had black and I'll never go back! Sure it looks good when clean but it's such a hassle.

Actually, the highjack is better than the original post! WHOSE WITH ME ON THIS!!!

:D

93rdcurrent 06-09-2004 02:21 PM

I liked the GT package because of the *HEATED* leather seats. Very important up here in the winter.

Velocity-8 06-09-2004 03:13 PM

BTW, the GT package with leather is heavier than just the Sport package therefore the GT is S L O W E R! :D

boarder 06-09-2004 03:39 PM

black and red leather is the only way to go. oh, and it also looks good on the car :)

RENE 06-09-2004 04:07 PM

I agree with the thread starter.

Leather or bust...........It's a matter of opinion but.........I've seen the cloth.......sorry cloth owners.........Cloth may feel better but leather is leather.

My couch=cloth
My pants=cloth
My car seats for my high priced sports car=LEATHER

zoom44 06-09-2004 05:13 PM

the cloth is the way to go! especially as far as color goes. the cloth looks way better with my silver car than the various leather combos. plus it is way grippier. love my cloth seats!!

nt5k 06-09-2004 07:28 PM

Hot in the summer, cold in the winter, and slippery in the turns.. Yeah leather is the way to go..

Also you can't get leather without also getting a hole in your roof. So, that was out for me..

VelociRedBeast 06-09-2004 07:34 PM

I got cloth because I live in florida and leather= no good in florida..

rocketrich 06-09-2004 08:06 PM

Folks, Its pretty much a matter of taste. I'll be getting cloth. For an autocross toy, the less weight the better. Leather is very nice, and my wife thinks the heated seats are to die for when its cold in our other brand car. But in warmer weather the leather is downright uncomfortable/sticky/sweaty. How about some other (hijack) colors in the cloth! Rich

red_rx8_red_int 06-09-2004 10:24 PM

I went GT because I had to have the red/black for my red 8. If they would have offered a cloth black/red option my choice may have been different. The leather I can take it or leave it. There are both pros and cons. The moonroof, although I do use it, I would rather have the increased headroom especially when I'm wearing a helmet. The heated part, it does come in handy, as I hate wearing a coat in any car. The adjustable part, I use it all the time to adjust the distance to the clutch. I get in and move the seat forward, after I get on the highway at cruising speed I usually move back an inch or two for more comfort, then I move back up a little when getting back to heavy stop and go traffic, and finally move it back a lot after parking to ease the egress.

Hmmm, OK, that's one thing I'm jealous of. The manual seat is of course more difficult to adjust; and, correct me if I'm wrong, but I can't find any "memory" setting for it (manual seats).

It's annoying to have to find that perfect seating position again if I move it to help someone out of the back, let the wifey drive it, etc.

RX8Freak 06-10-2004 07:39 PM

Not everyone has 4k to spare after getting an RX-8, especially younger people. Personally I would love getting an RX-8 with GT, but only because of the two-tone interior. If they had it with cloth, I would be very happy so I wouldn't need to fork over 3k in things I dont need.

Reximus Maximus 06-10-2004 08:05 PM

I went with the cloth because I wanted the extra headroom that comes without getting the moonroof. I love the looks of the red and black leather package, but as I was going with the yellow, this was irrelevant anyway.

Also, as to the earlier point about the rotary accent in the seat being flimsy and moving around, that sounds to me like trying to rationalize paying a lot of money for the upgrade. The RX-8 with a cloth interior is a great car, just like it is with the leather interior. Either way you get it, you just can't go wrong!

Todd Green 06-10-2004 08:26 PM

Grand Touring the only way to go? Oh crap! does this mean i am not cool now? i got the sport package! i guess i will sell my 8 since GT is the only way to go. Is the Saleen the Ford to get? or the Z06 the Chevy to get? i just wanna know what is cool... or at least what hollywood thinks is cool!

RenoIV 06-10-2004 10:10 PM

Pardon Me ... but I normally don't do this .... I'll bite ....

Guess what? not everyone yells at those whom they are seeking responses from. I like the GT ... I selected it too ... If we had the option of red/black cloth I might have selected it instead of the leather ... The cloth in my FC has been great and held up quite well .... Do you know what an FC is? ... I'm thrilled by your passion for your RX-8 GT ... Did you know that other then your choice of leather, the accessories you list come with the GT? ... Guess I could say that the 8 "lookx horrible" without the other accessories I selected ... I don't because I think it is a great car now matter how you choose to equip it. Not everyone wants or is in a position to get all the options possible. It is an inexpensive exotic.
Please don't tell us how much you hate the 8 after you flood it! Perhaps then, you'll discover it has a rotary engine.

complex 06-10-2004 11:04 PM

ROTARY? WAHTS ROTARY??

Mick8 06-10-2004 11:16 PM

For me the GT just made sense. I wanted all the goodies that came with the package - one of the main reasons loved the RX8 was I could get my sports car, but still drive it daily and use it to occassionally haul around the kids. The GT package options are things I use for the daily / kid stuff.

I love the two-tone as well, but I had to have the brown/black instead of the red/black. It is sweeeet!

HollywoodHall 06-11-2004 07:18 AM

brown and black huh... what color is your car green? that would look the best i bet..... what tones can you even get for this car.. i dont think the red / black interior would work for anything besides the black or red car.... otherwise theres just too many colors and its not appealuing to the eye.

opinions are like a..holes, everybody has one, and the one who started this thread knew it would cause a ruckuss

Reaper Man 06-11-2004 10:33 AM

as far as I know- the hard plastic on the backs of the seats is for the seat motor- my Supra has the same thing- in other words, I don't think they add much if anything to the rigidity of the seating. though the leather is nice and more taut- hence the rotary symbol not moving

I however couldn't substantiate the price just for leather seats and as has been said before- extra weight and I add plenty of that on my own:D

Well I didn't want to add any fire to this post, but......

I saw a Yellow sport package, appearance package, spoiler, and cloth interior. And guess what? It had the 16" rims. It was butt arsed ugly. The 16" rims on this car make it very un-appealing.

Kel Rx8 06-11-2004 10:25 PM

i agree :)

I bet my butt ugly 16s ride nicer than your "sweet" 18s that everyone (and your mom) has. Keep tellin yourself that their cool while your dissin' others.

HollyweirdHall...keep your leather...and your moonroof that will eventually leak. Your posts are narrowminded and lame. You should write Mazda and tell them that they should only sell one version of the 8. Im sure they would agree. Manufacturers have to make a base model so that people with less $ can get in an entry level car. Not to metion that people are buying based on needs and wants as well.

NavyDood 06-12-2004 08:13 AM

1. I didn't diss YOUR car.

2. The ride with the 18's is fine. It's a sports car and is supposed to feel like one when you drive it. If you want a better ride buy a caddy.

3. My mom? If you followed any posts on this forum, then you'd know I got the car for my wife. Oh, and I am sorry, my wife is 24.

Elara 06-12-2004 09:50 AM

Guys, he's a troll. Ignore him and he'll go away. Closing, so this doesn't get any worse.
