Got "N" PCM FLASH ON AUTO RX8

I brought my car in for 7+k service and Service Bullentin for the A/C that just came out. I printed it and the hard start bullentin out and pointed out where it states to update PCM with at least "M" load even if car is in for normal service. They gave me a rental because it would take 4hr. After 4hr they called and said my car was done. PCM was now at "N" and the docs they gave me said "CAL is now N3H4EJ00013SN020". They also said they have the A/C amplifier on order now and they will call me when its in. They washed it and it looked great(walked around car to check it out). The "N" PCM is everything you hear, smoother, more powerful. Get it !

UM... THE LETTER AFTER THE "E" IS THE CALIBRATION LETTER.

just in case you don't believe read page 4 of the TSB here so if it states you are now up to the part number you gave then you are on "J". it this is true then they need to update there WDS(world diagnostic system-the machine they use for trouble shooting. all ford companies use this machine) to the newest update which which should be at least 30.6. the one above that is 30.8. the newest update for the WDS is 31.0 and they may have received it in the last couple of days. they may need to install the updates and then reflash your car. J was superceded by K like 6 months ago and with L and now M since the beginning of this year.

Im some what relieved there isn't a N FLASH

you explained that very nicely. My car was flashed in December. I hope I have the k. It sure starts and runs well. I don't see any reason to get the M but probably will anyway next oil change.

Isn't the placebo effect wonderful? :D
Now I really doubt those posts when people claim that their car with the L or M flash is 'smoother, more powerful'. Kagero is probably not the only person who was supposed to get the new flash but the dealer did nothing, and then they still felt an immediate improvement in their car's behaviour...

Yes, I think it's mostly placebo. The ONLY thing I noticed after the flash was worse gas mileage, and less bucking in 1st and 2nd gear. The gas mileage thing might be because I "reset the ecu" after I got the flash.... I didn't know it would reset the ECU, I just wanted to make sure I got the flash. Oh damn well!

I did do the brake PCM test before and the oil pressure guage did not move, but after it did do the sweep to just past half way. So now what did I get? It could be the sheet they printed out show what it had previously.....

I didn't notice any changes at all when my car was upgraded to M, but my car was made in December, and so it likely didn't have one of the really old versions.

Gas did seem to improve, but with only 2 tanks before the M flash and because it was during the break in process, I can't be sure there was an increase.

Still, I like to think that I gained better fuel economy, even if I didn't :)

Well, then in that case, you must have at least the L, but I think now all dealers will give you the M. So if you did see the oil gauge sweep, then I'd say, you must have the M.
So maybe this is NOT a placebo effect, after all :D
