Got my RX8 delivered..some problems

I was just looking around...went to nissan and checked out the titan and 350z...then i went to mazda after seeing the rx8 on the freeway. Just to look is all i went there for...sigh

anyway, now ive got a big debt for a few years but the funnest car ive ever driven. Problem is the dealership didnt have the silver one i wanted and they said they can have it delivered. Picked it tup the next day at night after work and took it home..
Theres a spot on the hood about the size of a handprint where the paint color is dull (still shiney like the clear coat is on..just the color is dull) will i get problems if i try and ask the dealer to get it fixed? had this car 3 days..

I also didnt get the nav, but if i ever wanted to get it later, can it be installed? or is it either your car has it or it doesnt, no adding?

thanx for the help

Don't know about the nav, but try to get them to buff up the spot on the hood and remind them how much you're dying to bring the car in to them for regular servicing as time goes by. Unless they're idiots, most dealers will try to generate good-will with customers, especially if this is just a minor touch-up that's needed. Where are you located?

Unlike a dent, it would be hard for them to blame you for this problem, so your chances should be good.

MercXP...Congrats and welcome to the cult!! :D I know of 1 forum member that has installed the OEM Nav after-the-fact. I believe he/she was successful. However, the cost is HUGE!! $3K plus. You may want to consider an aftermarket Nav/GPS unit instead.

Welcome and enjoy your car, you'll love it! But do get the dealer to fix the hood, it will probably always bug you unless it's rectified. The dealer should take care of it. When I picked up my new car, there was a scuff on the door sill. I had the dealer replace it, which they did no questions asked. Paint imperfections are things that most car dealers will fix for you when getting a new car.

a good road map of your town cost around $25. you would have to buy a lot of maps and travel a lot to equal the cost of the nav system. btw maps dont have computer errors. lol

maps do have human errors. and while the cost of the nav may be a lot, if you plan on keeping the car long term then the directions DO help a lot, saving lots of lost time and frustration and maybe worry. It's a lot easier to trust a computer and a company that specializes in maps than someone continually saying "I KNOW where we're going" etc.

You may find that aftermarket NAV units may be superior in quality for approximately 50-60% of the price. I'm not sure though. The only drawback is that they aren't integrated, but to me, thats exactly worth the price difference.

cool, called the dealer and theyre gonna check out that faded spot as soon as it stops raining here in So.Cal.
about the nav...ill miss out on the cool factor but i guess the after markets are better (GPS>DVD)..just wish they were integrated like the OEM.

Ive got the alarm that came with the car and getting LoJack; still jumpy at the thought of parking at the malls and stuff...what other theft detterent stuff do you guys use/recomend?

Get back to us next year when it stops raining there. BTW, we'd appreciate it if you'd return our weather. We're all getting sunburns up here in Seattle.

As for deterrence, I've found that a sticker warning potential thieves that the car is wired with three sticks of dynamite to be particularly effective. However, after losing several cars I concluded that actually installing the dynamite was an error.

Good luck with your new car. :)

For a night delivery you have one week where the dealer is legally responsible to fix any issues that could reasonably not have been detected during the delivery inspection. Take it in and show it to them soon.

Could be left over from the shrink wrap from transit - it might just be glue hopefully. I had it on my moonroof rubber edges. Have the dealer also install the alarm shock sensor to help you out.

I don't know anything about post installation but I do want to share my thoughts on the Navi. I'm in the process of shopping right now for an 8. I have one with and one without Navi picked out. The difference is approx. $1800 and frankly I’m finding it really hard to justify this expense for something that I will not be using on a daily basis. So, I think I've convinced myself not to get it. However I do have a Palm T3 and recently purchased "TomTom" software which operates with BlueTooth technology and allows me to use the palm for my Navi. I just got back on a 600 mile trip using it and I am actually very pleased with it. The TomTom cost less than $300. The Palm was $350 and a 1Gig SD card was about $80. Or you can get a garman iQ360 setup for arounc $550 with a car kit plus a card. Cables are a problem but it sure cost a lot less money and you cant take the palms with you for your daily use in the office, school etc.

Just a thought!

Or do a custom car computer installation. Get MP3, Nav, DVD, avi, and even internet in your car. The costs are all dependent on what you want. Check out places like http://www.mp3car.com
