Got hit from the rear

Yesterday a car drove into me from the rear when a was standing at a red light. I had my baby boy in the car and my girlfriend. My son sat in a baby seat in the rear and bearly noticed anything but my girlfriend who did not wear her seatbealt hit her head in my backrest. The car got only minor damages. The bumper cracked just below the license plate at two small places, nothing major really. The bump felt hard though.

Should I worry that the car is more damaged than this? Mayby I should take it to the dealer and have it checked? Or I should worry?

Mazurfer 06-03-2012 07:06 AM

Probably okay, but how about pics?
Did you get the other persons info? Did cops come? Any ticket issued or accident report?
Glad all are okay.

SouthernSwede 06-03-2012 09:29 AM

Didn't call any cops but i did get info from the other driver. He was an old man. They are deadly behind the wheels! Will file an accident report tomorrow. I'm going to nurburg ring in one month so I'm worried if anything has been altered? I had my wheels lined up just the other week.

did you drive it after the accident yet?

Have a body shop look at it. They'll know what to look for.

If your girlfriend's head is sore, she should see a doctor.

If it was hard enough for your girlfriend to hit her head, it's possible there is hidden damage. I would get it looked at to make sure something important isn't bent or worse.

Sorry about the accident. Anyway, post pics of the rear bumper and have a certified body shop to check some hidden damage that came with the hit.

A. Marry your girlfriend. She had your kid, dude.
B. Tell her to wear her seatbelt.

Fixed that for you, on so many different levels.

You should always get your car inspected after a hard hit.
Its especially so when its a rear hit that shows damage to your bumper.

What happens if you never get it looked at and fixed, and then some other nut rams you from the rear? Maybe that second impact will cause more damage to the people in the back seat than this time due to the original hit and damage.

Ok thanks for the tips. Reason she hit her head was probably due to the fact that she unbuckeld herself at the stop to rach for a toy which my son dropped. If she would have remained properly seated she wouldn't bumb her head. Bad timing. The damage is so small on the bumper that my shitty LG phone can't take a good pic of it. Today I will have a insurance man have a look at it. Hope for the best.

I was rear ended pretty hard at a red light as well, and I thought the whole bumper was going to be caved in when we pulled over to look at it. All I had was the two cracks like you're describing and my license plate got bent a little. I pulled the bumper off and it looked fine underneath, I've put about 8 track days on the car since then, never replaced anything, feels and drives exactly the same. Good to go.

That doesn't mean you should get it checked out though. Best of luck. The dude that hit me had Geico and they paid out almost 900 bucks for a new rear bumper but since it's turning into a track car I just got some more go fast parts instead.

Let me know if you need a new stock bumper, I'm going to be selling my old ones soon.

Grace_Excel 06-04-2012 02:55 AM

^ yeah, good luck sending that one to Germany!

SouthernSwede 06-04-2012 03:55 AM

Good to hear that.

Depending on what the law is, you may want to inform the guy that you filed a report. He might get in trouble for neglecting to report the accident to authorities.

Definitely get the car inspected for damage. If you want a generally quick answer, you could take it to an alignment place and see if the alignment is off by much. That might be a decent way to get a quick understanding if anything significant got bumped out of alignment. You should still get a full inspection for insurance purposes.

Hope no one has any serious or lasting injuries! The car can be fixed. Good luck!

How do you get that this was the girlfriend that had his kid from " I had my baby boy in the car and my girlfriend."?

Maybe he is no longer with the kids mother, or maybe he was worried that his wife might find out about his girlfriend :nono:

However on B. I could not agree more.

I spent nearly 9 months working at SAS in Stockholm many years ago. Loved it there, absolutely loved it.

i have a friend interested in the BB rear bumper, we live in NJ. .... not to threadjack lol. send me a pm dude.

It doesn't take much to whip a person's head back and forth if unexpected. To see this in action, watch a passenger's head when you do a brake check without warning.

What I'm trying to say is that the whipping head is not a reliable indicator of how hard the strike is without using measuring equipment.

If it's just a bumper crack, most likely you have nothing to worry about, especially if it's a direct strike (as opposed to offset).

I was wondering the same thing. Could be a different girl than the baby mama.

SouthernSwede 06-05-2012 05:05 PM

To end your speculation, she is my baby's mom, and yes I should marry her. The bumper and stuff behind it is going to be fixed no charge cuz it was the other guys fault.
