Got the Dreaded P2070 code (Lack of Power)
 

I let my lady use my car this week. on her way to houston to visit her sister, the check engine light came on. Lucky her brother in law had a comptuer to see why the light came on. come to find it out its the P2070 (SSV stuck open) code. so my brother in law went out to buy some sea foam.

it got rid of the cel. but she says its 5th and 6th gear the car feels weak. so this monday i have ot take in my car to get my back quarter panels, trunk, and back bumper repainted, and some dents taken out due to hurrican ike. afer that ill do the DIY that NyCgps has up (thanks for that). i hopefully that fixes my problem.

btw i redline the car at least 4 times a day. but being at 60k miles, i most likely had to clean out my engine around this time.. so here is to hoping. if it doesnt fix the problem, i wonder what mazda will end up doing. i am not sure if this would be covered under warranty. but i shall do some researing in a few.

that sucks that damn cel pisses ya off right mine keeps coming on for evap and mazda won't replace my gas cap they keep saying it's fine even though i know that it was to b that because it alwasy happens a couple days aftyer i fill up gas

100k core. Tell them its a loss of power...BAM new engine. Well...that's absolute best case scenario and we KNOW that doesn't happen often. Keep us updated.

Any update on this one? I just got my code read out by Autozone and I've got a P2070 as well. I've got 35k miles, 04 6-speed.

Covered under warrenty. Take it to the dealer.
Either the 5/80 drive train warrenty or the 8/100 engine core warrenty.

Am I totally crazy to just drive it hard and hope it goes away? Will it solve itself for a while and come back?

yah do what aln said. also i did carbon clean up a week later after my issue. no problem since then. also changed out my plugs , coils and wires.

but i had mazda change out my cat, it was clogged. i thought i had to pay, but they did it for free. after like 3 times of me taking my car in in the same week, when they told me nothing was wrong. . i didnt ask any questions, just took the keys and left. maybe it was the emissions warraranty? i didnt research tht one.

There's a TSB for this issue...

Take it in and get it fixed, if you can't yourself, 'cause it won't go away.

u need to replace ur coil packs, n since u are their change ur spark plugs n wires.
to check if u have a bad coil remove one at a time if their is a white spot then ur coils are bad. they make ur car misfire, and u also loose a lot of horsepower at the same time.

White spots dont necessarily means coils are bad.

Alright so I just called the dealer and he said that they'll do the de-carb for ~$130 or something (forgot the exact number) but that's all they'd do for the P2070. I asked what would happen if that didn't fix the problem and he said that the warranty wouldn't cover anything. (I'm 2 weeks over my bumper to bumper.) Have other people gotten this covered under the drive train warranty?

I've got some seafoam in the garage, going to give it a try this weekend. I found that thread since the last post, very helpful. Doesn't look too hard either.

I want to seafoam my car but not sure the neighbors would appreciate the smoke and smell.

haha yeah i live in an apt complex i'm sure they would not appreciate being coverd in white smoke

BTW small note, I am not sure where you do the seafoam injection, in the oil or through the intake manifold....or both but anyways if you use the vacuum lines coming off the intake manifold(2 of them) it where we inject our mazda gasket sealant also and I am noticing by injecting it there the intermediate housing is getting probably 75% of it. Just figured I would note that. Personally I dont think its a great idea to do seafoam through there though, there is usually massive carbon build up on the intake ports on every engine and when you do the vacuum line injection it will probably break it off into the engine. I dont know everyones methods though.

just read the tsb. It tells you step by step ... a side note... do it in an open area surrounded by nothing... especially to the rear of your car... ahhaha

mine had the same issue with the valve stuck open at 50K miles..

what i did was i seafoamed the motor. and then i cleaned the throttle body with cleaner and sprayed some while the motor was on.. and let it sit for a while.. that seemed to clear it out and once i started it up.. i dwent for a 10 mile drive and for almost 3 minutes straight i just straight up reved it..

redline let go bom bom *fire fire*... redline, let go boom boom *fire fire* and so on

the motor got really warmed up.. CAR has run solid since then.

my top end was soo crappy but now its pulls really hard.. maybe i just got lucky =]

im already at 54K miles and im ready for another 46K =]

Can the valve be open and NOT get a CEL?

I too want to do the sea foam thing but dont get some of the DIY steps so I'm going to get the Mazda cans that clean the carb build up.
