Goodbye RX8

Well today was the last day with my RX8. It has been an AMAZING 6+ years. I have truly loved this car. I will ABSOLUTELY buy another rotary powered Mazda down the road. I just felt it was time to move on. Mazda has been a great company to deal with and was always pretty easy with warranty problems. She will truly be missed. I will recommend an RX8 to anyone. It's an amazing machine.

Now onto my new ride..... 2009 Corvette Z06. Has been a car I've wanted forever and finally was able to make it happen. Good deal with only 6000 miles!! Yes 6000!!

Anyway good luck to everyone with their 8's and I will continue to stalk the forums and help out where I can. Other than that you can find me on the corvetteforum.

Were you able to get valve guide wear checked?

Any mods so far or all stock?

04RX8man 03-16-2013 10:27 PM

It's all stock. Have not checked valve guide wear. Valve train is completely quiet. I'm going to check it at about 10,000 miles. It's under bumper to bumper and powertrain. Warranty so I'm not really concerned for the time being. Once the warranty is gone is will be getting built heads, cam, intake and tune. I'll be happy with 575whp

Oh, a great replacement! :D:
Pics please!

Sounds good. If you notice the clutch fluid may get dark and the pedal soft, frequent Ranger protocols are the cure.

Most start with pulling the exhaust fuse for more idle sound, and CAGS skip shift eliminator.

See you later down the road.

I tried to put pics up but would load from my iPhone. Will upload ASAP. I already have the fuse pulled :) and needs the CAGS skip shift eliminator ASAP. Happened like 10 times today. Had to baby it since the roads were wet. Didn't want to drive on wet roads but couldn't wait!!

You have the newer TR6060 transmission. Any difference in gear change speed compared to the rx8? About the same?

04RX8man 03-16-2013 10:52 PM

No it actually seems pretty similar. Obviously the RPM is much lower but the speeds where it feels comfortable are very similar.

All I can say is that car fits you perfectly lol, that damn vette is BRUTAL!!! cant wait for a proper ride next time!!!

Yeam man once it gets warm we'll go for a better ride. I was in it a few times tonight. Just spins. Not that I would expect anything else.

Good luck with the new ride. Can't wait for pics of the vette... ;)

Funny I ran across this thread. I have been thinking the same thing myself.
Is the ride very stiff?
I don't know about the gs or the Z

04RX8man 03-17-2013 07:33 PM

No the ride is not bad at all. It's not a Cadillac but it's not as brutal as an aftermarket coil over. I couldn't be happier with the car. It's a complete monster. The torque is unbelievable. That 427 is an amazing engine. But the GS is not bad either a little more streetable. Depends on what you are looking to do with it. If you want a ridiculous amount of power definitely go for the Z

Great trade.

I was actually looking at eventually trading in my 8 for a Vette.

Show some pics ;)

Thanks for the info--now budget for tires:)

04RX8man 03-18-2013 06:36 PM

Definitely doing that. The stock GY run flats are not fun at all. No grip and feel very "twitchy" when cold.

olddragger 03-19-2013 04:54 PM

Thats what I have heard--a lot around here use the Nitto's. Not a lot of choices in those sizes.
My time will come one day:)

04RX8man 03-24-2013 07:26 PM

I'm pretty set on the Nitto Invo's. finally had some good weather to really rip into her. Still a lack of traction at 100+ MPH on the fun flats. Maybe with warm weather will help.

This was of course on a closed course. Do not try at home etc etc. ;)

You traded yours in for a Vette...I traded mine in for 911. What happens, again, when 911s and Corvettes get together?
