It has been an absolute pleasure with driving my RX-8 and even more of a pleasure with reading the posts on this forum.

My 2004 RX-8 will no longer run...

Back in December (2011), I ran into a very hard start situation and replaced my plugs, coils and plug wires (which I already replaced back in March of the same year). Continued to have a CEL (P0302), but tried some BG44K cleaner and that seemed to have resolved the problem. Car ran for almost 3 weeks. Around the first week of the new year, my car developed the hard start problem, again. Ran through the de-flooding procedure, but no go. Installed another set of plugs and coils, but still no go. My car is sitting at my employer's parking lot.

Funny thing, I am not upset or even angry. Bought the car new back in 2004 w/ 6-speed manual. Car currently has 139K plus miles on the original engine. After my December breakdown, I decided that this will be the last year for my RX-8. Car has been paid off for 3 years and things are aligning themselves for me to get a car I have always desired: Corvette.

I continue saving towards a vehicle purchase. I already have about 6K saved. Goal is to get to 10K around April/May time frame, and then purchase a vehicle. I have found 2007 Z06 (22K miles) that I really like, but my common sense says, SAVE SAVE and SAVE some more. It has been nice not having a car payment.

Good Luck to everyone with your RX-8. I will continue to read through the blogs. There is a LOT of mechanical knowledge on this forum.

One last thing, I recently joined the Corvette forum and was reading through their blogs. There is a HUGE aftermarket for the Corvette, but most of the owners do not do the work themselves. I guess with the age difference, these guys have reached or will soon reach their retirement age and do not want to be crawling around and over their vehicle anymore...

Sorry to hear bout your rx8. Good luck with your next car. C6 Z's are a beast. I'd maybe wait till the C7 comes out and perhaps the C6 prices will drop.

Part of my desire to get a Corvette is both personal and a little political...

I have been reading that the C8 version is going to be a MUCH different Corvette. As with all things, car manufacturers will need to adhere to the new Cafe rules being implemented. I have read that GM is considering a smaller V8 (5.5 or even 5.0) high output , but less weight. There is even a rumor of a turbo/super-charged V6. My only issue is that the price is going to go even higher for this car.

Corvette forums are already buzzing that the best Corvette could be the C6/C7 versions.

My other desire is a manual transmission. It truly breaks my heart to see that the manual transmission will be a thing of the past. I refuse to own an automatic vehicle. Unless I have a physical ailment that requires me to have an automatic, I will always look for a manual transmission. I just enjoy that connection with driving a car.

I will keep reading the forums. There is some really good talent here and a LOT of it can be used on piston engine technology....

My dad bought a new 2011 6 speed a year ago and I absolutely love it.He got it for 42500 plus taxes etc.... No options just a stick and they all have the removable hard top now. Excellent choice and good luck.

Before you sell it "as is " put the upgraded starter in it - may well fix the issue for you .
