Good deal for a 04 Used Rx8?

Hi, I'm quite new to the forum, but I just love Mazda. Since I'm in college now, I've decided to trade in my Mazda6 for something well more sportier. I love the v6 and the style, but it just seems a tad big for me and I've been dieing to get a rotary car for some time. But I'm in a dilemma, there are two used Rx-8 for sale at two dealerships and I'm just curious which one seems better and if I switch from the Mazda6 to the RX-8 I won't regret it, is it consider an upgrade or a downgrade, because I want to drive fast enough just to beat the local dumb ricer civics on occasions :).

First: 2004 Brilliant Black RX-8
Mileage: 32,715
Condition: 4.5/5
Cost: 24k, my dad got the dealer ship to lower it to 20k

Second: 2004 Titanium Gray RX-8
Mileage: 22,300
Condition: 4/5 (The rims have very noticeable curb rash)
Cost: 26k, dad got it to 22k
also this rx8 has navigation system.

There are just a few things that worry me, though, I havn't research much on the rx8. Is there any faults with this year model, will I be ripping my eyeballs out because of the poor mpg, and practicality. Because the Mazda6 has never given me problems yet so far.

Thank you in advance! :) :)

Try to locate a new 2006 leftover, you can get a brand 2006 for around that price with all the rebaits avail. If your looking for mpg car, the 8 is not the car for u... do a search on the site for mpg and recalls

CTrx8 01-04-2007 07:33 AM

please read some of the FAQs and stickys as well as searching around. all of these questions have been answered before and you're just asking to get flamed. both of the cars are very high priced so i wouldn't even deal with those. as for beating the local ricer civics and worrying about mpg, this isn't the car for you.

rogerdodger 01-04-2007 06:19 PM

Those are very bad deals. Neither one is worth more than $16-17k wholesale, so add $400-500 and that's your price.

We have an 04 for sale at my store for an ad price of$16000. Less than 30,000 miles. That is a fair deal, we are in to it for about $15200. That will give you an idea of the amount to pay.
As for the car itself . . . are you sure you are ready for this kind of a commitment?

THe RX-8 is certainly an upgrade but you seem to be wanting it for the wrong reasons. The RX-8 isn't a whole lot faster than a 6 S so if you're lookijng to beat cars that you couldn't in your 6 then it's best to look elsewhere.

dillsrotary 01-04-2007 07:23 PM

WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY to much for an 04 with that miles!

I paid 18.7k for a 04 Base BB Rx-8 A/T with 31.5k and I'd say condition was 4/5 if not a tad less since owning. If your set on the first one you can get it for way less hell atleast get 'em to get it down to the price I paid lol. There are problems and there are no problems with that model year. Just really depends on if the previous owner took care of the car or not. Mine didnt and i'm paying the price but its what a warrenty is for. On Gas Mileage if your that worried about it this isnt the car for ya man do a quick search and see how many post's are made.

Edit: Oh and I fully believe I paid to much for the car but them the breaks on buying your first car :( lol

Both the cars are way too expensive. Do yourself a favor and research the prices...

Check out the wholesale/auction prices on www.intelliprice.com. That will give you an idea...

Hi guys, and thanks for all the input. Yea, I'm not considering about the "fast" factor anymore, I had a family relative just get a very huge speeding ticket. The local under cover cop has been trying to instigate local ricer civics, and my brother fell victim to him in his Nissan 350Z. And also I've been doing my research on the RX-8. So I'm going to see if there's any manual 06 RX-8 in the area, and I'm almost considering to sacrifice the good mpg and how fast the Mazda6 for the handling and much sportier style of the rotary.

I'm also sorry for posting this, I should of known I would get flame without doing any research on the RX-8 what's so ever. I should of research and then ask for him instead of the other way around.

Hi guys, well I tried the advice on some of you guys gave me, and the 06 RX-8... sadly most of them at the local Mazda dealership were sold and shipped somewhere else. But the 04 Titanium Gray one I mention earlier, the dealership went down to 18 to 19k depending how good of a condition my Mazda6 is. So that's like roughly 14k with 3k of cash. Would you guys think that's a good deal. There's nothing wrong with the 04, had all of it's service records up to date, condition is good, only thing wrong is the horrible curb rash the previous owner has on the left rear rim.

the price of the car should never be dependant on the condition of your trade. you should negotiate the price of the car then negotiate the price of the trade. you're still on the high side for an '04 even at $18K.

Nobuhiko 01-06-2007 12:12 PM

Yea, I know that the dealership shouldn't be doing that, but they're probably trying to get the most money out of the rx8, even though it's been on the car lot for 2 months. Also, my dad did all the talking, and the dealership havn't even seen my Mazda6 yet. I really wish I could of got the price down to like 17k or maybe 16k. Also I've just checked the records again, and I realize it didn't have the latest recall on the it's service records yet, the one where you might need a new engine one.

RotaryP7 01-06-2007 02:41 PM

Well, lets just say I got my '07 at 23K.

i_luv_my_rx8 01-06-2007 06:10 PM

I don't think it's a good deal at all, personally. I got a used Velocity Red 04 with roughly 12K miles on it, a Sport Package, and a Nav system for $20K and I also had them throw in an extended warranty with no extra charge. I'd keep looking if I were you. You can always check out Kelly Blue Book for the value as well... kind of gives you a good estimate of the car's worth. Good luck, either way!

Nobuhiko 01-06-2007 07:33 PM

Yea, I know there not spectacular deals, but the lame butts at the Mazda Dealerships just don't have the specific RX-8 I want, they have all their sport models in auto, and the manual ones have every flippin accessories they can vomit on the Rx-8, and they are also GT trimed ones. I've even check other Mazda Dealerships, and same story with them. Maybe I should wait, or hit them up with the Mazdaspeed6 or 3, they go around 23k to 25k as well, but they're all the GT luxury ones, and I have seen the automatic key system thing fail and glitch up on the Mazda6 forums. So I'm running out of options, I'm just looking for a RX-8 sport or touring, decent mileage, has all service records, and is a stick. And I need to do it in a Trade-in, because I only have like 5k of cash saved up.

i_luv_my_rx8 01-06-2007 07:39 PM

If it's not a necessity right now, I would just wait it out. Sooner or later you'll find the one that fits your needs. What's the rush?

Nobuhiko 01-06-2007 08:26 PM

Well, I thought of checking out for a new car, since I'm in college and I just went to a Auto show, and I just feel like the Mazda6 doesn't have what I'm looking for, it's like in between of two things that Mazda can offer, Handling and Power. Also the deals on the left over 06 models seem pretty good for a new change, but people have beatin' me to the punch I suppose, so I guess the used 04 Rx-8 in my local newspaper might have been my last hope. I've read about the Mazdaspeed6, practicality is good, and is probably faster than the Rx-8. But the Rx-8 is stylish, handles smooth. I'm sort of leaning towards the handling and sports car, I don't mind the mpg since I don't drive much, just from home to school, and some weekend events, and I'm sick of people asking for rides since I have a sedan. But I guess I'll hold out though.

seden 01-08-2007 12:38 PM

I just purchased mine for $18k. 2004 model 6 speed with 30k miles.

Rhythmic 01-08-2007 02:31 PM

My '04 GT 6sp., 18k mi. w/ Nav. and Racing beat suspension package, aftermarket audio and alarm, and Toyo t1s tires was $21K. I think I got a decent deal, owner still owed $5k more than that.

I would choose the RX8 over the 6, no doubt... haha.

Have you tried checking out local dealers rather than just the newspaper? Some dealers don't necessarily advertise all the used cars they have, so there may be more RX8s out there than you think.

If anything, hold out till you find a deal where you're not unsure as to whether or not it's a good price. If you have any doubts, there's most likely a reason for it. Best of luck!

I have found several 04's going for around $18k.
