Going 1JZ, advice ?

Hi, after long 2 years of non productive working on my rx8, and giving up hope on that Rotary engine . i'm going to swap it all for a 1JZ , OR 2JZ (for extra 3K$) so not sure if worth it or not )

and will set the engine and gear box the I bought for sale
4 port engine
6 speed tranny

a friend of mine got a garage, and he is an expert on fitting different engines to many cars

and when I showed him my car (04 Automatic)
he was like , ok I can fit you a 1JZ with everything so you can drive it for 3K$, or a 2JZ for 6K$ (but this will need to wait as he still got to find me a good engine ) the 1JZ is on hand and ready to work on . the engine got less than 60K miles on it

will swap the engine and will go to manual tranny .

what do you think about the price and about the engine in general , is it easy to find parts for it, how about power (the engine is stock twin turbo)

and as for my cluster, (since im automatic) am I going to face any problem with the spedometer or anything >?<

any general advice.

Thanks .

If Im not mistaken, the speedo receives a signal from the ABS, the tacho receives its signal from the ESS, so you will need to retain the chopper wheel which is on the front of the Eccentric shaft and the Eccentric shaft sensor. If you have read any of the swap threads, you will notice there are many naysayers who disparage non rotary engine swaps, most are ppl who can't think outside the box or have no fabrication skills, so expect criticism. Don't cut corners and plan everything to the last detail. Your friend should rethink his quote. I suggest you look for a Toyota site for power specs and or upgrades. There is a fellow member, Joker and the Thief , who is doing the same swap, he may be able to assist you. Good luck and don't f#ck it up.

3k for the entire swap? Damn I'm jealous, I hope everything works out, please post pictures! Hope to go 1jz one day once my original at 110k goes out :P

Edit: For the speedo, you could probably use an aftermarket one like a Haltech or something I'm assuming.

What engine are you planning on running which version of the 1jz? the vvti? if you have a vvti model you are going to have to figure out wiring and run and ECU for the etcs, or etcs-i to operate also you have to figure out which oil pan will fit in the RX8 be it the front oil sump, mid sump, or rear. I'm betting the rear one will be the one that will fit. Also if it is vvti try to get the version with etcs instead of etcs-i.

I'm swapping a vvti etcs-i into my sc300 currently.
