God I love this car

This car never ceases to amaze me. Every day I like it more and more. I got in it yesterday and all of a sudden she felt like she had a lot more kick. I love how
-I can run the crap out of her at constant high RPMS and not worry one bit
-I can take hard corners at 60 or faster
-I can look at the most beatiful car ever and be able to say," That is my car."
-I can be driving and not realize I am cruising at 6k RPMS because of how smooth the engine is.
-I can Hear the deep rumble of the RB exhaust change over and hear the RB intake taking over at 3k RPMS.
-It seems like every day she gets quicker, the exhaust note deepens and sounds better.
-No matter how hard or how easy I drive it I will always get a near constant 18-20mpg(This is very cool because I can run the crap out of a tank with 60 percent of it being 7k plus RPM shifts and still get this mileage.)

But yes, I really do love this car and would not trade it for anything else.

Same here. The more I drive it, the more I like it. It sure turns a lot of heads too.

I've been obsessed with cars since I was about 16 (26 now), and this is by far and away the best car I've ever driven (including my fathers porsche 944, 1984 corvette and my friends 3000GT). Every time I drive it, it puts a smile on my face. Nothing is better than getting on an on ramp that includes a 270 degree turn, and flooring it all the way through. I've never had a car where I was so confident in taking turns at such high rates of speed.

Question for you, t-run/8: would you recommend the RB exhaust / intake? I'm definitely going to upgrade mine (I've gotten used to the high pitched sound of the current exhaust, and I would like a richer note), and I'm trying to decide the best route. $700 for a RB exhaust seems like an ok deal to me...

Good to see something positive about the car. I get the same feeling everyday as well. She is so sexy!!!

Buying my RX-8 was the best thing I've ever done for myself. I don't think I will ever want a different car.

Kewl 12-05-2006 09:58 PM

I took my 8 out to a 13 turn road course here in New Mexico...with an instructor. We had the track to ourselves for two hours and had a blast.

If you ever get a chance to do that, do it. You will learn so much about how bad a driver you are (okay, maybe not everybody) and how great a car you really have (and that's everybody).

It wasn't as bad on the tires as I thought it would be, but you do have to pay attention to the rev's. More than once, but only three times, did I hit the rev limiter cause it is so hard to know you are at red line with this engine from sound alone. Twice traction control kicked in, once it was really needed and I was impressed at how IT recovered the car.

All in all worth every penny ($200) and I WILL do it again.

Best value on a coupe/sedan esque sports car with a mid-engine feel ever.

Amazing chassis, buttery smooth rotary.

I love my 8, too.

I have had 0 problems with my car.

t-run/8,

Read and responded to.

Yeah. I need to go to a track already. The road I know, which has about 15 turns, stretches over 8.3 miles (so yes, too many straight aways, which gets boring), is getting kinda old already. Though it's illegal, and a backroad which is rarely used, it's better than nothing.

Frynge 12-05-2006 11:28 PM

said it before, I'll say it again. this car is an underappreciated work of art. it has it's problems, sure, but show me one car that doesn't, other than the silverghost of course. XD

Same here. To take that one further - it's the first car where I ever seriously wished to have more than one.

I drive past the local Simmons-Rockwell mega-car-lot a few times per week and for a while now they've had a nicely trimmed pair of 2004s (one red, one yellow) for $17,999 each. I find myself idly thinking, "would be nice to have a red one too," and, "that yellow looks sharp with the aero package."

Then I think, "wth is wrong with me? If I'm going to expand my 'fleet' of vehicles I need to add a truck and if I get another fun car it should be a convertible." Maybe there was something in that new-car-smell in the RX-8 that damaged my mind.

.... or maybe it's just a rotary thing. :ylsuper:

encorez 12-06-2006 03:17 PM

I love the fact that is so few of them around, At least here in northern Wisconsin.
I feel sorry for people that spend all that money on a corvette and then don't even stand out.

Same here.

In Michigan, I've seen no more than a dozen in a year.

or better, a rotary convertible. Did they ever make a drop-top 7?

Brettus 12-06-2006 04:20 PM

Think there should be an official RX8 leg humpers forum where only good things can be said about our great cars & troll comments get deleted immeadiately ......
or is this it already ?

Raptor75 12-06-2006 04:52 PM

Great list but who the hell are you sleeping with at Mazda to get those mileage figures. I have to assume you drive highway 80% or more, am I close.

encorez 12-06-2006 04:59 PM

Yeah, I get 260 miles per tank. 50-50 city/highway driving. ( never into warning light )

Low Fly'n 8 12-06-2006 05:13 PM

I'm about to hit 50,000 miles and "that feeling" is still there every time I turn the key. If they ever discover a cure for 8-Fever, I want no part of it.

crimson-rain 12-06-2006 05:31 PM

I'm at 58K miles. I still enjoy driving this thing as much (if not more) as the first day I brought her home. At 100-115K miles, I'm not looking for another car to drive. No sir. I'm going to have the engine rebuilt and boosted for another 100K miles of smiles and joy.

My 8's a keeper. Period.

I let my friend recently drive my 8 and no sooner than an 1/8 of a mile gone by, he said, "no wonder you love driving this car so much. this car is just sweet in every way."

Now that I think about it, I've never heard anybody really complain about the way the 8 drives.

corners 12-06-2006 05:55 PM

I've been enjoying the dry pavement after 4 weeks of solid rain- the engine has passed 5500 miles and its starting to run sweeter. I've taken to praying that there are no cars in the roundabouts on my commute so I can take them at 50 mph instead of the usual 15 mph when I'm stuck behind a mommy mover.

astrozoom 12-06-2006 06:05 PM

There is nothing like the RX-8 on the road....period. Nothing like a cool, crisp morning with the moonroof open, a nice curvy road in front of you and the sweet sound of the rotary humming along behind you.....

corners 12-06-2006 06:05 PM

My rotary hums around in front of me, are you driving in reverse? :)

VRZOOMZOOM 12-06-2006 06:32 PM

I love this car as well :). Actually two of my bosses today complimented it. First, i took one of my bosses to a business meeting and he has a briefcase and i'm like do you want to open the rear door and put it back there and he like cool i didnt even know it opened like that.

I love how this boss says wow this thing has some balls and i'm only at 6K. haha.

I love how this same boss tells me hey you should shift at 6K to get better performance. Meanwhile i have to inform him that it has a 9K redline and i dont make peak HP until 8500 lol. and then i dont make peak torque till 5K. and he oh wow..it has a 9K redline? lol

Then later during the day back at the office, CEO parks his Escalade and sees me, and he like wow i didnt know the doors opened like that, my two daughters would slit their wrists for this car, they would love this car lol. How he loves the car himself and had an 83 RX-7 so he understands where i'm coming from. Then i tell him i dont have sports car insurance its considered a 4 door and his face is priceless, like what?! lol.

Love how CEOs who drive their expensive cars check it out, all curious.

Love the fact that i'll pull up along side of a car and immediately the car next to me, females turn and look at the car and then look at me with a smile haha. I love the fact that this car didnt cost 100K to turn heads, i have people in other cars, passengers doing the follow stare after they past my cars like little kids lol.

I love the fact just having this car for a little over 2 months, and i feel like i've been with it for longer than that. It feels like i had this car the whole time. Meanwhile i only have 3600 miles total.

Also love how other drivers in other sports cars blow by me, thinking i'll race them lol. Like somehow the RX-8 evokes some kind of fear in other guys, like I just beat an RX-8 on the straights lol. Meanwhile i know my car will take their car through the twisties x10.

Most importantly, i love how this car is rare!! I probably see one RX-8 once a month if i'm lucky, and its usually in a different package than mine. Truly unique yet people think we paid thousands more.
