Glove box won't open

MY glove box is stuck there for long time, just decide I want to fix now, who should I goto? Mazda dealer or lock vendor? Cuz when I insert and turn the key, it just won't open... Btw iam out of warranty

Do you have just one key? it may be the valet key. The valet key does not unlock the glove box. The mazda dealer, with your vin, can make you a new master key.

Waylon Chen 02-24-2014 10:43 AM

Wat? There are more keys than just electron and attached strip down key? Is that the spare key you talking about??

kevinande 02-24-2014 02:26 PM

I have an 04 and my Valet key is gray in color and the regular key is black. I am not sure about the other years, but there is usually a way to tell them apart. I have no reason to not believe the previous poster, but I have never tried it, and now I will when I get home

Yea, been to dealer, asked, only one key on 2006 one, I think it just simply broke, they say 60$ half hour inspection and fix fee additionally, I ll just .. Idk leave it there for now...

I had this happen, no work around, I had to break it open and replace the glove box. Not a common issue.

Oh, was it hard to do? Is there a way to just replace the latch instead the whole thing? Seems like kinda hard for me, I didn't see any screws outside anywhere...

Waylon Chen 02-25-2014 04:29 PM

Hmm.. Dealer tech desk service helped me to strike the whole thing apart... Cost me nothing.. And now I ll just spend 60 or 70 to buy a new box... Seems a good deal...

Waylon Chen 02-25-2014 04:31 PM

Guess better than order new ones from Mazda. Says whole thing 200can$ + labour.... Over 300

9krpmrx8 02-25-2014 04:38 PM

Yeah you have to destroy it to get it open. I bought a used one out of a 2009.

kevinande 02-25-2014 04:44 PM

Did you guys lock them before ths happened, or did they just get stuck out of the blue?

9krpmrx8 02-25-2014 05:08 PM

Mine just got stuck out of the blue, I have never locked it before.

kevinande 02-25-2014 05:26 PM

Wow, that is weird. Good thing it does not happen very often.

9krpmrx8 02-25-2014 06:01 PM

Yeah I thought I was the only one this ever happened too, this is the first time I have heard of anyone else having the problem. But, in ten years my glove box has been opened a gazillion times so it's whatever.

Grace_Excel 02-26-2014 01:46 AM

I had that problem a few months after I bought my RX-8. Locked it and I could not unlock and open it after that. I was able to unlatch the hindge from the bottom, reached around and unlocked the mechanism with the help of a flathead without destroying anything. And truth be told, 9krpmrx8, there is a spring inside that came loose preventing the striker to not move once locked and closed. Fixed it at no cost and in half-an-hour.

Waylon Chen 02-26-2014 01:09 PM

So is it true my key can unlock any 8's glove box?? Lol I truly don't understand, I am buying a lock latch from a guy and he told me I can use my key to unlock the lock latch he selling me...

My key works fine the the used 09' glove box I purchased. But locking it is dumb, a 5 year old could bust it open.
