Glove box noise? Help identify what's this part?
1 Attachment(s)
Hi. I have a 2005 RX8. and the car always has a light noise coming out from the glove box (when driving, especially on bumpy road). Whenever I use my finger to lightly push the glove box the noise disappears immediately. I've been trying to figure out what's wrong there but so far all I can find is a broken part below (attached)
Basically it has a loop-like thing which is hooked on the edge of glove box. like this http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_atJ_I8k6oJ...binFilter4.jpg Mine has the loop broken and no longer can hold in the right position. I am not sure if this is the source of the unknown noise. What do you guys think? If this is the problem any one knows what's the technical name of it? Can I find a used/new part anywhere for it? Thanks a lot |
Glove box actuator. I just bought one since mine didn't come with it. You could remove it and leave the glove box without one or replace it. Don't ask me how, I'll only know once I receive my replacement.

I have the same issue as well. What i did to reduce the noise is i inserted a few folded paper just enough to still close the glove box, and the noise went away. :)

I removed the thing but the noise is still there...So I don't know if I should pick up one for the glove box. So only one is enough? both sites have the bump thing to hook the loop?

I have the same problem, I've noticed that the left side of my glovebox hangs slightly lower than the right side but I've never inspected the hooks being mentioned here, and slight pressure on the left side of mine the noise stops. I've also noticed more noise when I'm at a stop in gear vs neutral. I'm AT and when I'm at a stop in D or M there's quite a bit of shaking but I think my right side broken motor mount is adding to the issue in my case and once I put it in N the noise stops.

Glovebox Rattle FIX!!!
I know this is a SUPER OLD thread, but I found the fix for this on my RX8 a few years ago. The issue isnt the glovebox to the dash, or the glovebox actuator. It is actually the GLOVEBOX ITSELF!!!
My cabin had A TON of noise in it, and I hunted EVERYWHERE trying to figure out where it all was coming from, and eventually landed on the glovebox. I'm assuming its for crash safety, but the glovebox is actually a shell of inner and outter parts. In between those layers there's a hidden sheet metal piece (likely to lessen leg injuries in a crash for the passagener). This metal piece rubs against the inner and/or outter pieces, and can cause a hell of a lot of noise! TO FIX: Take out the glovebox, take off the glovebox handle, then you can see the internal sheet metal shield. Get some Great Stuff or spray foam equivalent, shoot it all up in the gaps inside the glovebox! Clean off any excess with some Acetone or cleaner called out on the foam label, put the handle back on, and reinstall. Hope this helps someone else out who HATES unecessary rattles taking away from the sweeeeeeet sounds of some Dorito Power! |
